I'm thinking of picking up a 19" widescreen LCD.

I currently have a 17" dell LCD.

How is the gaming on a 19" widescreen?

And if I have to change it to a 4:3 aspect ratio, how is gaming?

IMO a 19" widescreen is not an improvement over a 17" 5:4 screen

You'll have more instances of game resolutions not supporting 1440x900 than 1280x1024. Go with at least a 20" widescreen or larger for a noticably larger panel to look at and you'll be glad you did.

How much is too much right in your face? I mean, you're sitting at a desk, you wouldn't want 37 inches. Between 21 and 24 inches, what is the happy medium?

I say 22"
24" is too expensive
21 and 22 are small-ish and more expensive than 22.

Well, I mean if prices keep falling, which one would you choose? I'm just curious what people think is a nice size from a normal viewing distance.

i'm currently gaming on a 19"ws lcd. BF2 and farcry. at 1440:900 the res is ok for most FPS, things look pretty enough but the pixels are a little big if you look close. Anti aliasing doesn't do all that much to improve it without taking a hit in framerates for the max settings.

I'm thinking of going to a 22" to get the higher resolutions for really long range sniping.

the real problem is that some games don't support widescreen the way they should. and unless the lcd has a special features in the OSD controls to adjust for filling the screen, it will just stretch the image which makes the game just annoying.

If money were no object, screen size depends on the distance you sit from the monitor...I can't help you with that.I sit my stretched arm away from 22" and it's good.
