Gaming Notebook?

The title says it. I'm looking for the best gaming notebook for a friend. On board wireless would be good. Excellent processor and vidcard a must.

You might be able to come close to that configuring a Sager w/ the 6800 mobile graphics card. Try spec'ing a Dell XPS or 9200 as well.

Thanks for the heads up on Sager, zodder. I'd not heard of them before, but I will check them out.

get a good centrino laptop w/ 9800pro.

u dont want the big old dell xps! dell xps is a desktop replacement.
I old roomate has one of those cuz he dont like desktops, but it is a drag to take that thing to anywhere because it weights 10 pounds and like 1:40 mins while playing games.
Can you image bring on of those big old laptops in an airport or school? hell no
So for $2500, u can get a light Centrino laptop that is almost just as good as the dell xps but 5 pounds lighter and more battery time

Sager makes the best of the best as far as desktop replacement/heaters go 😀

you can get a dell 9200 w/ 2.1 ghz CPU (fast as or faster than a 3.2 ghz p4), 9700 128 meg, 1 gig of ram, 17 inch USVGA for around 2 grand, 60 gig 7200rpm hd for around 2 grand.

Also, i know a highend notebook maker (dont remeber the name) that has really high end stuff.. i mean they make IBM, Dell, Asus look like kids toys. Some of their Centrino laptops cost around 7-8K or more.

im sure if you wait a little more centrino laptops will have the 9800. I guess i was wrong about the Pros.

Ill be travelin this winter, with long layovers at couple of airports. No way i'm carrying a 10 pound desktop replacement. Just my opinion.

I mentioned the XPS because it sounds like gaming is the most important feature he's looking for. If weight and portability is equally important, then a good Centrino based system will be the best choice (8600, 9100/9200). The 9600 Pro Turbo I have in my 8600 can chew through anything I throw at it. I'd recommend the 8600 as well if weight and battery life is important.

Good assessment, zodder. I'm looking for mobile gaming, but if it weighs 10-12 pounds or even a little more, that's no big deal.

I'm not a gamer but most of the posters on the Sager Forum that are heavy gamers have the P4 and make that selection based on power and not mobility. Most of the posters that buy for mobility don't use their lappys for heavy gaming. Just a thought!!!

Thanks, jblaz. I like quality thoughts and info. There's a shortage of quality thoughts and info in the world. 🙂
