Gaming newbie help please.. HL2 questions

Hi all,
I'm a gaming newbie so please forgive me. I bot an ATI card ages ago and got a "free" copy of HL2. So I went and did all the Steam bs, tried to use their help desk and forums but to no avail. It's been 4 days since I registered and still can't post any new topics!!
So I figured I'd ask the pros here. My problem is that I don't have an internet connection at home, well, I have a dial up acct that connects like crap. So I dl'ed all the stuff at work and was wondering if I can burn it and bring it home. Is this possible? Can someone shed some light for me. I'm not allowed to play at work. Not to mention if they see these files on my work machine 🙂 Thanks all,

I saw that post but took it literally...doesn't that mean just your steam information? Not the game itself? I need to be able to play the game in "offline mode" I can not get online to play from home. Thanks for the reply tho, I'll try it.

You will have to get online from the house at least once. Backup the files at work, put them on at home, and then run steam through dialup. It will download the unlock routine. Next, it will unpack and install. The actual download is very small and 56K friendly.
 
yeah you can backup all the game files and then burn them to a dvd. i believe it makes an executable so you can install them to your home pc.
