Gaming monitor question...

I have it in my head that I need a 2ms monitor to really take advantage of what my new build will have to offer. I am having a hard time finding a 2ms in a decent price range. Do you guys think it would be ok to go with a 5ms monitor for gaming? I suppose it might not make a huge difference?

If I can go with a 5ms monitor without sacrificing much performance that would be great since it would open a huge selection up to me.

First you should read this post by gorobei, with regard to monitor response time: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=32283266&postcount=17

Whether 5ms will be enough for gaming really depends on the particular monitor, and the way in which that 5ms was measured.

The best monitors for gaming, by far, are 120hz which invariably have 2ms response time. If 24" is big enough, my recommendation is Asus VG236HE.

That monitor looks nice but I don't have $400 to drop on a monitor and build my pc.

I was looking to try and stay under $200. I know you get what you pay for but I gotta watch my budget.

Even if I did buy that monitor the 3D function seems like it ties you into purchasing more stuff just to run it.

Would my 6950 2gb run the 3D function on this monitor without having to purchase more and more things in between?

Yeah alright. Asus VH238H is probably one of the best choices. $170 after rebate. 5/5 out of tons of customer reviews, 1080p, 23.6", 2ms Grey-to-Grey. And LED backlighting which provides slightly better contrast and more vibrant colors, and it reduces power consumption to half compared to standard LCD.

Oh I didn't mean to use the 120hz monitor in 3D mode. I meant using it with the refresh rate of 120hz. The image is smoother, resulting a more pleasing and fluid gaming experience, especially if you can run a game at a high FPS.

I've heard many people say they really like 3D. I've never been interested in it, what with all the glasses you need and the decrease in FPS and image quality. It's just a gimmick at its current state as I see it. Maybe in a few years we'll have proper glasses-free 3D monitors and universal compatibility with games.

I don't know if AMD cards can do 3D at the moment.
