Gaming Laptops

ill be goin off to uni at the end of this year and have decided to leave my rig at home and invest in a laptop....but i still want to play games!! such as UT2k3/2k4.....command and conquer generals.....splinter cell, CoD etc

i will also be holidaying in the US this year too, and with the dollar being its lowest for 11 years i reckon now would be a good time to buy ( yesterday...1 pound sterling = 1.91 dollars, they reckon it could be 2 dollars to the pound later in the year 🙂 )

i know the mobility radeon 9600 and now the 9700 will be good chips..........its just finding them!!!!

preferebly i want this kinda spec...........P4 2.4Ghz+ or Centrino, 512mb ram, 40-60gb HDD, not to keen on widescreen laptops that popping up every where, wireless connection etc and of course a good graphics chip which is 64mb (bare minimum--would like 128mb)

now you guys got any ideas/ examples of this spec? obviously im looking around the 1000-1200 dollar mark----is this reasonable?

$1000 to $1200 will definitely not get you a laptop that's geared towards gaming. Alienware and Dell offer laptops which they claim are ideal for games, but they still fall way short of what a traditional tower set-up could offer (and they cost about 3x what you're willing/able to pay).

Instead I would try to work out a way to bring your rig with you to university.

hmm maybe...but like i said...ill be goin to the US this year and the exchange rate is lookin like its gonna hit 2 dollars per pound sterling....so if i saved about a grand in british currency thats about 2 grand in dollars!! hahah

yeah that is a alternative tho....get a few upgrades and take the rig with me....for that a TFT is a must the desk space isnt generous!!

Emachines have a new A-64 laptop that people like, and is around 1500. I only own an old laptop, so I dont speak from experience, however.
