Does anyone game here on a laptop?
What brands and choices are out there? I remembered Dell and probably other vendors having mobile go 6800 and 7800gtx. Are those cut down versions of desktop cards? And are those mxm cards?

The mobile versions perform slightly worse than the desktop cards, so a 7800GTX Go should be a bit above or equal to a 7800GT

Not true, I read a review and those 7800 go cards perform suprisingly well, almost on par with their counterparts.

Yeah .. the mobile versions are surprisingly very close to the desktop versions now. Anyway, I have been hearing that you'll soon see 7900 based mobile versions too. So you might want to wait a little

I configured a Dell XPS m170 to have a 2ghz Pentium M, 2 gb of RAM, 7200 RPM Hard Drive and a 256mb Geforce 7800GTX Go the other day for around $1500 shipped. Check it out.

please, i used to gameon the laptops for 2 years, on dell inspiron XPS system, and i have this to say-

a true gamer really needs a desktop, at first on laptops everything will work fine, but later on if the frame rates drop or something goes wrong, there is no way to tell what happened because ytou cannot open up your laptop, you will eventually have to send it to the manufacturer, who will make you go go through a lot before replacing anything. Also very very expensive and hard to upgrade videocard if possible at all on notebooks.

on desktopss, you can replace individual parts, thats all i have to say! Nootebooks are cool and mobile, but in the long run gaming solution, not worth it. (
Now i own both, inspiron XPS and a dell 9150 dimension.
