Gaming Laptop

I am looking for a laptop mostly for gaming and the odd project that comes around.

I have read through the monster eMachines thread and the 6805 looks to be what I am looking for. I have also done some comparing with some other Laptops and I can't find anything that beats the price/performance of the emachines for what I need.

Now my problem is that I am a poor Canadian and finding one of these things is a pain. The Bestbuys in my area do not seem to carry this model and the only place I have found with a price is at http://www.futureshop.ca which is another company that Besybuy owns. Problem with these guys is that they don't ever have any in stock and the price is a bit higher than if I ordered from the Bestbuy site in the States.

So does anyone know if Bestbuy online will ship to Canada? I looked through their site and couldn't get a yes or a no. The price difference between Futureshop and Bustbuy is around $200 so it would be worth it for me to do this even with the extra shipping I think.

Or does anyone know of a compareable Laptop for about the same price with similar features that I could get instead. What I require is a fast processor and a good vid chipset. Battery life is not really important to me at all.

Thanks

This sager will destroy that emachines, for equal or less money.

Radeon 9700 128 MB, 1 GB DC-DDR400, 3.2 GHz P4, 60GB 7200 RPM 8 MB cache, 108 Mb/s wireless, 1600x1200 native resolution, dual batteries, for less money.

i have an earlier version with a similar config but the 9600 and only 54 Mb/s networking. the screen is the best i've ever seen and 3D performance is well up to the task of running at 1600x1200. those new ones will be even faster. you can get them with the 3.4 GHz P4's as well.

Yeah thomsbrain, I dunno how much you think the M680x series cost but the 6805 is about 400 less after rebate. But I also have to disagree with shellguy. The 680X series only has a Radeon 9600 w 64 mb of RAM, which is the main limiting factor in this system. The sager would probably beat it but once again... it's about $400 more expensive.... that and my emachines has wide-screen. :)

Conn,
He also has to install an OS on his Sager which will run him a bit over 100 for the XP home. I could do some nice things on an M6805 with 500 bucks.

Sager NP5690

ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 w/128MB DDR
2.8GHz Hyper-Threading Intel Pentium® 4 Processor w/512k L2 Cache - 800MHz System Bus Speed

$2250 after $100 rebate.

Dell Inspiron 9100
15" WXGA
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 w/128MB DDR
2.8GHz Hyper-Threading Intel Pentium® 4 Processor w/512k L2 Cache - 800MHz System Bus Speed
60.0GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive at 4,200 RPM
1GB PC3200 DDR400 Dual Channel Memory
Combo 8X DVD/24x10x24 CD-RW
Built-in 56k V.90 Modem
Built-in 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet LAN w/RJ-45 Jack
Windows Operating System
Built-in 802.11g 54MPS Wireless

$2470

I am not really sure where to go from here.
There is only a $200 difference between the eMachines and these other 2 systems. Is the price premium for the 9700 over the 9600 worth it? And how does the processor in the eMachines stack up against the Pentiums?

Any other suggestions?

sorry i was comparing US dollars to Canadian dollars. obviously the two laptops aren't in the same price league.

Load up the sager to the specs i listed plus Windows XP (come on, who really doesn't already have a copy, but whatever, I'll add it in) PLUS a DVD burner, and it costs $2323 US. But it also has 5.1 optical out, double the memory running more than twice as fast, a faster video chipset with double the memory, nearly double the screen resolution, a 7200 RPM drive instead of 4200 RPM, and no bloat-ware pre-installed.

so it was kinda of like suggesting a Ferarri when you were actually looking for a Civic Si. my bad.
