Gaming Laptop to Desktop upgrade questions...

So, I've got an MSI GT60 Dominator that I am looking to sell locally and upgrade to a desktop machine. I am looking to be able to run BF4 and some of the newer adventure type games (Tomb Raider, Far Cry...etc.) at decent settings. I'm not a super enthusiast gamer, but want something that when I feel like playing will run decent (or at least as good as my MSI).

Can I get a bit of help knowing to go with an i5 or i7? I probably won't go above a GTX 970.
