I'm moving soon to attend a different college and I'm unsure of what I was going to do for my computer setup.

I was planning on purchasing this: Text

But as I've been thinking about it, I think I should probably get a desktop for gaming and a used laptop for the library and such.

Here's the desktop I'm considering: Text

Of course... with another hard-drive, more ram, nice vid card, and dual monitors.

For a laptop I'd purchase a last gen ultra portable (700m? 12" powerbook?). What do you guys think? Just get the laptop or get the laptop and the desktop for a little more?

I'd suggest building your own desktop and buying something like a Macbook for college.

Build your own desktop. I bought a laptop originally. Went back to a desktop because of the lack of upgrade ability. And don't get a Comcrap PC, they aren't the most upgrade-friendly systems. It looks like it takes a microATX board as well. Bleh. Your call I suppose, but I highly recommend not getting that.

I've built every computer I've used since 97. I'm sick of building. Maybe I guess... I have a socket 754 system right now, and an agp card. I'm gonna part it out after I get a laptop. I guess the consensus is to get a craptop and a nice PC?

I'd just stick to a laptop, there is no need to have both at school really. Its really up to you though. I have a Xbox 360 so I just have a Macbook laptop.
