"Gaming" is a relative term to me these days as the extent of gaming is pretty much WoW these days. I'm sure I will want to play D3 when it is released but have never really cared that much about whether I am able to run everything fully detailed/max res. Something about middle of the road has always been good enough for me.

With that being said, I'm looking to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $750-$1000 (after tax, live in TN). I think a 15.6" screen would be sufficient but if a deal can be found that includes a 17" I will not be against it. A Blu-Ray reader would be a huge plus. I'm really not adamantly against any brand so will weigh the pros/cons of each.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thats the same one that I was looking at after reading around. Same boat for me since I just need it for school work and some light gaming such as WoW or maybe SC2 since the bulk of my gaming will be my desktop.

Im just waiting for my girlfriend to pay me back for her laptop that I financed on a best buy card to pick one of those up.

Wow man be sure you stop by BB and play with that thing instead of just ordering it if you can. It's really nice but holy hell it's huge. I doubt it will fit in my backpack so I may end up having to go with my original plan and focus on finding a 15.6" like the MSI GX640. http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GX640-098U.../dp/B0036OR9DI

So guys like I said before I'm mainly a WoW type gamer who may want to play some D3 or SC2 but don't necessarily care about playing with full effects on. Am I going over the top by looking at these two laptops?

I just picked up that Asus from BestBuy this weekend. Its a pretty potent machine for the price. I don't think you will be disappointed by any stretch of the imagination.

I'll definitely check out the envy. Btw, have any of you had any experience with the asus g60jk? I'd love the g73 but it's justtoo dang big. Wish they offered it with a smaller screen!

The G73JH is a 17" and if that's too big, then you'll want a 16" or 15". Maybe the 15" Asus G51JX or the 16" Asus N61JQ would work.

I suck at deciding what to buy when looking at these kinds of purchases. Now I'm looking at the Asus N61JV-X2! :p

I prefer ATI graphics, especially now with AMD supporting mobility with official driver updates, so I didn't directly compare with the nv equivalent models.

ATI also draws much less power at same performance (at least the new series 5xxx).

Talk about a huge swing in what I thought I wanted when I posted this thread.

Ordered a 13" Macbook Pro last night.
