So what do you think of this laptop for $2044.00?

17" WSXGA+ w/ Super Glossy Surface
Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.50Ghz)
Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT w/ 512MB
4GB 667MHz DDR2
100GB 7200rpm SATA
8X DVD±R/RW/4X

I already have a high-end gaming desktop. So this won't be my primary gaming system. I'll use it mostlyto play some games, watch movies, play music.

Also, the 100GB drive is a little tiny. My laptop has a 100GB, and with my music library on there, and Windows, and some games, and some movies, I start really feeling the squeeze for space. My desktop has plenty of storage, but the drive on there that I dedicated to holding all my game installers (I like to rip my game discs, that way I don't have to carry a bunch of CD/DVDs with me, or know where they are) and installed games was getting full and it is 180GB

Well I currently own Oblivion, BioShock, Neverwinter Nights 2, Call of Duty 4 and a few others. Been wanting to play Crysis, Quake 4, Quake Wars. But I can play all those on my desktop system. Laptop is secondary for games.

For the money, The Gateway P-6831FX is the best Gaming Laptop out there. The only downside to it is the slower CPU and small screen resolution, however for the games you wanna play I doubt you'll push them over 1440x900 with an 8800 series card anyway.

If you want a customized gaming Laptop though your looking to spend > $2000 easily. If you have the money, then go that route. Look at Dell's XPS line, Sager, and maybe even Alienware.

For like $100 more you can get the Sager 57xx series from XoticPC.com with an 8800m GTX.

I looked at Sager, what is this 57xx series that you speak of? I could only find one model that starts with the numbers 57 and ends with two other numerals. It's the 5793.

Very true, or just customize it on Gateway's website. You'll be able to get it up to the same specs...perhaps even better (especially the video card), and it won't cost as much (or the same, but still be better).

I took a look at the Gateway website and I did not see any options for customizing their laptops.

Yeah 5793, the xx's were just used because I could remember what numbers exactly.

Anyways the 8700m GT isn't a very good card. I mean it is, but for the fact of it's size and heat output you might as well go for the 8800m GTX.

The 8700m GT is the exact same card as the 8600m GT, only it's clocked higher. Still has the 128-but bus.

Well the 8800m GTX costs $400+ more than the 8700m GT...

Tough call. I would check out some reviews of the two cards because one 8800m GTX is more the twice the speed of SLi'd 8700m GT's. I suppose it all comes down to your budget and what the value of performance is worth to you, what games you're going to be playing, and how long you intend to be using this laptop.

That's why you go with the Gateway laptop (8800GTS).

I'd rather run on 3GB of RAM and a 200GB HD.

Stick with 4 gigs of RAM. Don't settle for nothin' under 200GB of hard drive capacity. I mean, a Sony Vaio will give you 200/250 and is less than $1300, you're gettin' a $2K laptop with only 100GB of HD space, that's truly ridiculous.

The mobile geforce 8700 is lousy. You pay $2K and you can get a faster 7800GT in a laptop.

8700 on a laptop for games is a waste.

i'd highly recommend the Sager 5793- it's a great gaming laptop. . . .nice screen, firm keys, cooling fans along the bottom, lots of extras like webcam/TV tuner. . . .plus when i got a 25 month interest-free lease from sager- it was too good to pass up

u say get 3gb of ram, then u say to get 4gb of ram.

and where do u see that the 7800gt is fasther than the 8700M?

Yeah, the 8700M GT is NOT the way to go if you want good framerates at mid to high resolutions. Get the Gateway FX with the 8800M GTS and save yourself $600 in the process...the CPU is not nearly as important as the GPU in gaming, so an 8700M GT is going to hold you back a lot more than a slower CPU will.
