I'm a mouse/keyboard man. The mouse has far superior control as far as I'm concerned. I might go mouse/joystick if I could find one with enough extra buttons to satisfy me; it'd be nice to be able to strafe at more than one speed.
Very rarely have I used an actual joystick in my time gaming. (Although the analog sticks in modern console controllers came from the joystick perhaps).
If I'm on a PC it's keyboard/mouse and sometimes a gamepad for emulation.
Console... well the gamepad of course.
Im a bigtime mouse / kb guy as well. I have a gamepad for my PC that literally sat in my drawer for years. I just broke it out recently when I started playing Need For Speed UG2. I cant stand gamepads for FPS. I get smoked up pretty bad in HALO 2 by my console buddies, but the tables quickly turn when they come over to my house for some lan-play 😉
Depends on the game, probably 9/10 games I'll use mouse/kb. In FPSs a gamepad or joystick simply doesn't give you nearly the control that a mouse/kb does, though gamepads still have their place (I still play FF7 and use my gamepad for that, for instance).
Not into joystick games. Use a Pad for Descent 3 and Pad/Keyboard combo for Mechwarrior 4.
The mouse is perfect for FPS's. I watch folks playing Quake and Unreal on consoles and laugh myself silly. They dont even realize how much they struggle with games. Its what they are used to. These are the same guys who think a keyboard is primitive. I used to get into discussions all the time and now I dont bother with them.
If they ever do like they did with Final Fantasy and make a cross-platform FPS, I'll own all the console lovers.
Counterstrike and Tac-Ops are even more dependant on precision. I can drop a beed on somebodys head with an SR9 no problem (using my Razer Viper). But a joystick would take forever to home in.
Driving Games: Logitech racing wheel and pedals. The best immersion possible for a driving game. If you play any kind of driving game and don't have a wheel/pedals, you are missing out.
use my logitech 3d joystick for 1942 flight. use mouse/kb for all else. using joystick for fps is asking to die lol🙂 and well picking off mousers in dogfights is just too easy with the stick.
