Gaming industry in creative slump?

The problem I've been seeing with great game companies or great indy developers is that once they get bigger they always go for the big bucks and that means the mindless shooter games. They ditch their past creativity which may be more niche and shoot for the big giant generic shooter. Its like TV and the stupid dumbed down reality shows, if people keep buying that crap then they are going to keep making it.

Well, in all fairness, once you get bigger, you have more staff to pay, more investors to make happy. Hard to do that with high-risk, unknown concepts. Easiest way is to produce a known quantity. All companies do this.
