Gaming headset for pc use

I heard there are headsets that can be set up to process only teamspeak/ventrillo data, for example, leaving all game sounds to come through the regular speakers.

I've found some usb headsets and a usb sound card to allow for 2 audio devices to connect (speakers and headset/mic) but I don't know how it works with the software mentioned above or similar software.

It's for a friend who is used to console gaming where he can use a monaural headset to voice chat but the game sounds come from the tv. Is there anything like this for a PC gamer?

That would mean voice chat AND game sounds come from the regular speakers. He wants voice chat to go through the headset and game sounds to go through the speakers.

any good USB headset will do this.. and the only software needed to set up is in the windows control panel.
just set what you want as output device both headset and soundcard will be listed

This seems rather idiotic to me. Why would you put headphones on your head and already diminish your game sound becuase you have cups on your ears, and then have sound come thru your speakers? I mean... the better games require use of positional sound to get an edge on your adversaries. I'd just have the sound come thru your headphones because you will get BETTER sound (provided you buy the right cans) and use that as an advantage in your online gaming environment.

I know for a fact that I would suck at most games without headphones to judge where people were stepping around.. Counterstrike, America's Army, etc... they are all sound sensitive games. Even World of Warcraft has a similar setup with rogues being hidden... you can hear them. But not with speakers 🙂

Oh before I forget.. to answer your question anyway.. get the Sennheiser PC150s USB. You can specify the output device in Ventrilo/Teamspeak when you plug in the USB card, and then set the default system to use the hardware sound card.
