gaming from your couch

Im tempting to post one of those 9gag type meme's.

"its a trap!" (imagine it, right about here)

why?

well it all sounds really nice, until you actually get your wireless mouse.
It will lag (delayed movements), at times miss small inputs, and run out of juice (battery upload needed to often). If its one of those with a holder to reload, the contact pads will get messed up with use, so you ll have to hassel and mess about to get it to stay in contract to allow recharge.

I had a logitect... cant remember name... wireless mouse that you placed in one of those holders, when not in use, to recharge.

Those batteries with 2years of lifetime? yeah right..... I think I replaced them within 2months or something, and it was the same story (with the new ones), eventually they'd end up not being able to keep full load for more than half a day.

It will bug you endlessly.... (the keyboard thingy isnt so bad though)

today both my mouse and keyboard have a wire... and Im a happier person that way.

on a seperate note, man those lapdesk look like a nice solution for ei. laptop users.
Coffee tables just arnt ideal for mouse/keyboards alot of the times.

For the keyboard get a Logitech K360. It doesn't have a separate arrow key cluster so it's 3" narrower than a regular keyboard.

I used to use a microsoft setup, I don't remember the model, but it had a receiver with a long cable that I could place closer to me, making the signal stronger. It worked well, but I felt strange lounging when I'm playing games. I feel more comfortable in a computer chair with the screen closer. Either that or a laptop with a stand.

I used MotionJoy software recently to get my dual analogue PS3 controller working wirelessly with my PC, great little combo for so many games, I was enjoying Beat Hazard streaming dance radio and projecting it on to my living room wall @ 120" and playing from the comfort of my sofa.

That is a thoroughly excellent gaming experience for the living room using a PC.

I haven't invested in a wireless keyboard yet, but a .99 usb extension fixes that.

I have a Logitech bluetooth M570. It works flawlessly. No lag, nothing. Batteries last forever in them (probably longer if you actually flip the off button when not in use). Not sure what the problem is for you...

360 wireless controller from my recliner. If no controller support I don't buy the game, this is 2012 - I'm looking at you Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2.

Same here.

I've never been able to find a point of comefort with position or kb+m combo when gaming from the sofa on a big screen.

Xbox 360 controller is great though. No complaints at all when gaming with it. I like the analog movement the most. Hard to have WASD make your character change from a slow walk to a brisk walk to a run to a fast run to a sprint with the ease available on the 360 controller.

Only thing i'd like is better hotkey support using the D Pad. I'd like 8 options instead of 4 from games that accept the D pad.

I do it sometimes, though I prefer my monitors and my super comfy chair. I can't remember the model off hand but I use some Logitech kb and a Logitech G7 mouse (think that is the one). for a surface to put them on, I have some tray/stand thing meant for eating in bed that works great.

Logitech M570 Trackball and K800 Keyboard. Trackballs are so made for HTPC gaming since you dont need a surface to worry about. And once you get use to it, it pretty much is the one to use.

Alternatively, get USB extenders for your wired mouse and keyboard.

I recently got a laptop with a decent video card and hdmi out.

I usually just put the laptop on the coffee table, connect the hdmi cable to it, and use a wired mouse and keyboard combo.
If sitting on the couch hurts your back because the coffee tackle its too low, get some cushions and sit on the floor with your back to the couch and your legs under the coffee table...lazy and comfy.

Thanks for the info everyone! The k800 seems like a solid choice, but how good is it for gaming? It looks like it has laptop style keys...
