Wow..this is some accomplishment for me personally 
. After having been frustrated with so many crashes and freezes when trying to play HL2:LC on a x64 window OS in the past couple of weeks.
Well, last night, I finally was able to complete the game without a hitch for the first time. Granted the game is short but this game was played with 4xaa/8xaf settings, full HDR, and @1680x1050 res. with smooth frame rate average 50-70fps on a eVGA 7800GTX using 81.98 signed x64 bit version.
Away from after having made so many other tweaks. Dunno what exactly was done to run the entire game free of crashes for the 1st time like this but from what I can remember, a change from 81.94 driver (64 bit unsigned) to a 81.98 (64 bit signed) has apparently helped.
