Hello,
I would appreciate if some one could give me some tips on the following build.

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/sys/1054312222.html

I am looking to invest in a computer, my budget is not high. Somewhere around the 1000$ mark tops. Basically play some of the games listed in the above add and also world of warcraft. Would like it if i could play them on mid to high settings. Its been about 3-4 years since i built my last computer so am completely out of touch with everything as I got busy in work. I used to use a crappy dell laptop which finally died on me. I realize the above machine would not be future proof, but then I am hoping it can hold its own with the current games and get me by decently. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated or if you could give me a few pointers on building my own 1000$ gaming rig. Basically I want to play the above mentioned games and thats about it. I live in toronto by the way..,
Thanks

Edit: Also if you guys suggest a building one would it possible to throw in a decent LCD.

Edit: I was just suggested this build by a local pc builder for 990.
AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 9650 2.3GHz
ASUS M2N68-VM Motherboard PCI-E
2GB DDR2
LG 22X DVD-RW IDE Optical Drive w/SW (Black)
Integrated Audio adapter on-board
Integrated GigaLAN adapter on-board
Radeon HD 4850 512 MB (For this price range, I think the HD4850 will deliver the most bang for your buck. It's a pretty powerful card)

PS -- sorry for the longish post. its been so long since i kept up with computer hardware that i am kinda frustrated. so any help and inputs would be awesome

i think you should go for a fresh build
with something like a ph2 710 + 790 gx or fx(total arnd 300$)
a nice graphic card like the 4850 or the 4870(200$)
smps + ram(120$ hey i dont live in the us i am just guessing this shit)
a cabinet + os another 200$
monitor may be 200$
a cooler(s1283 or vendetta2) for 30~ 40$
1060$ :))
60$ of you re budget heheh
but if you would like to throw in another 100$ you can get a ph2 quad chip or a 100$or a 150$ for a 9550(again i dont know the price its arnd 100$ for a p45 board)
i dont trust the second hand guys here in india
well add to that the keyboard mouse and speakers another 200$(may be)
yup that should be it iam unsure about the ram and monitor prices though :p

Hi Ganesh
thanks for the reply there. based on what you suggested. took me a while to figure out the stuff i picked up the following. think its good

cpu -- AMD Ph II X3 710 - 7.5 mb cache
mb -- Asus M4A79 delux AM2+AMD 790 FX+ATI SB750 dual
gpu -- Asus ATI Radeon HD 4870
mem -- Mushkin HP2 6400 DDR2 800 5-4-4-12 (1.8v) 2x2GB
case+psu --Antec Sonata III case with 500 psu
hdd -- WD 640 GB sata II 7.2k RPM
dvd -- Liteon DVD RW, etc
cooling --OCZ vendetta 2

i hit the 1100 ish mark with that, but like i said earlier if its good enough to play those games on a mid to high setting i am more than happy.. havent picked a monitor yet but some of the deals on the 24" ones seem nice

cheers

in case ur tight on the budget u can go for a 790 gx mother board(i heard the 790 fx is costly then gx)
remeber the gx has a integrated gpu and its not that good for crossfire(only 8x)
where as the 790fx has 16x pcie

so incase ur not crossfiring go for the gx arnd 120$
and in case ur high on the budget
a 280 gtx is better than 4870(abt 10% better )
4850 x2 is slightly better than 280gtx
but people say u will have scaling problems with that(dunno what that is)

UR OVERCLOCKING RIGHT ??
i have my own doubts whiether u can use ocz with the phenom2
-dunno may be it might work
i heard the s1283 is better than vendetta 2

I will be honest, if things run well with this setup, then i am not really keen on overclocking. Lol once i have more bucks a few months down the line then i will probably invest in something to that effect. but right now with this

well
cpu speed = F.S.B X multipler
u can get a couple of more ghz on ur chip
just by slightly rising the fsb its a single setting
its a shame to buy a decent board and cooler and not to overclock
just rise fsb and stress test
its not brain surgery :) :) :) :) :)
