it's a very good deal. if you priced out components ala carte the total for a Q6600, 3gb ram, 8800gt, 22"lcd, and oem OS is roughly in the $1050 range. that leaves $150 for the case, psu, dvd-drive, and misc.
the main concern is the 3gb of ram not being in dual channel mode and not pc6400.

I remembering hearing similar concerns about Gateway's FX laptop (3gb of Ram, maybe not running in dual channel mode), but that was confirmed to be running in dual channel mode. The same is likely true for this desktop.

?????

My 3GB of RAM is working in dual channel mode (2 x 1GB + 2 x 512MB).

relax, not talking about your system.

most of the prebuilts big names give you some premium parts(cpu, monitor, dvd) and then skimp on the rest of the system(m/b, ram, hd, video card) to make up for the profit margin. So you could buy a system like this and get 3 x 1gb ddr667 or 533, which would disable the dual channel. But as Hans indicates, gateway may be better about this kind of stuff.

I got one and it's a great system, and fast even with the PC 5300 RAM. Runs Crysis like butter. The only problem is the loud mobo-controlled CPU fan (Cooler Master, not a stock Intel HSF) that constantly starts, stops, and starts repeatedly when under low cpu load. It sounds like someone quickly turning a Dustbuster on and off every 15 seconds. There's no option in the BIOS to adjust it either - at least not one that actually does anything. If I connect it directly to the PSU with a 3pin>4pin Molex adapter it sounds like a vacuum cleaner at 100% speed. I ordered a 12V CPU Fan Speed Controller, hopefully that will let me slow it down.

While the fan noise may not bother other people, I figured I should put a warning out there. It's a nice box otherwise.

Of course the ad said qty limited.

Online: Can't even backorder it for later delivery
In Store: Every store in St. Louis shows Sold Out

Once again this is just a damn bait/switch to get you looking so you will just buy something else with their "0% for 18mo" credit card offers...

anyone run some benchmarks on it like 3dmark06 or such? super PI, etc?

ALso, to any who bought this model, what brand of hard disc and video card were included? I know this can change from time to time but still curious.
thanks

yea I was looking using some zip codes from the metro east area so I could see St Louis and no joy there or in Fairview.

bah. was pretty much deciding to get one, even if it meant driving 70 miles to get it.

oh well. ad says no rain checks either of course. Even that hot laptop is sold out around me.

I bought it last Sunday...dumped Vista Basic and installed Vista Ulitmate x64. This is a great system, WD SataII HDD, EVga Vid card and the LCD Monitor rocks.. Bioshock looks awesome. I was running Crysis at the native resolution of 1680x1050 at very High Detail setting, FPS was low (15) but it was still very nice. I backed it down to High and I gained about 5 more fps. Using NGO X64 drivers. My only regret is I have always o/c my cpu's and this cpu is just begging to be o/c. I figure Ill wait another 6mos and swap out the mobo w/a o/c board. Ya and the fan does get a little annoying when it revs up.

It had Vista Home Premium x86 from what I remember, not Vista Basic...

BTW, the sale ended yesterday, so the link is no longer active.
