Gaming computer build from NewEgg ~1500$

Hey guys -

It's been a while since I've stayed up to date on the latest hardware and stuff, so I don't know whats currently better than what. So, a friend of mine has 1500$ to blow on a pc. He wants as good as a gaming rig as he can get. He needs everything from the psu/case to the monitor. If you guys can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

While that's a decent configuration/price on that Dell, it doesn't include a monitor. You may be able to shave $100-200 off by doing it yourself, but you may run into some headaches as well.

Otherwise go with that Dell, drop $200 on a decent LCD monitor and there you have it.

and btw on the Dell, expect some horrible customer support =\. Plus, you're not even adding in the taxes- that will be a significant amount of money on a purchase like that, so just be aware of it if you decide to go with that Dell.

Mushkin 4 GB DDR2-800 (2x2 kit) - $75 after rebate
Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM - $170
BenQ 24 inch LCD - $390
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L motherboard - $90
Core 2 Duo E8400 - $195

And I have a 250 GB Hitachi hard drive and Plextor DVD burner that I'll be using. Total came to under $1300 shipped... add in a hard drive and CD burner and it'll still fall under your $1500 budget.

If you do model your build after this one, there's no need to buy a $18 tube of Arctic Silver. The Xigmatek should come with its own paste, but even if it doesn't the $6 tube is plenty of goop for several PCs.

^ This is true . However, I read that the Xigmatek's thermal paste isn't very good and may be corrosive to copper >_> (at least someone on newegg stated that.) May or may not be true, but I'd avoid any risks.

Also, if you are basing it off mine, remember you do not need to buy a case like that. I only selected that one because my friend likes it, and it is a full tower with some added features such as a removable motherboard tray. All these features obviously are not necessary, so feel free to choose any mid-tower (or full tower if you prefer) case instead of that one, which many may not like (I personally don't either, but it's my friend's computer, not mine ). Also, keep in mind that my build INCLUDED a monitor as you may have seen, so that obviously may not be necessary for you.
