Intended use: My PC is intended for gaming but I also do a lot of work on it as I work from home. This includes the use of Skype and word processing programs.
Budget 800-1000 GBP(Canadian keyboard lacks the pound symbol and I am too lazy to find it)
Country: UK, looking at overclockers at the moment seems to be the best site around if no one is able to tell me otherwise.
No brand preference just looking for what will give me the best bang for my buck
Currently I intend to retain my 3 hard drives the newest of which is a Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB. Also I have a sound blaster X-fi and of couse monitor, case, keyboard mouse, etc. With this upgrade I am looking at RAM, motherboard, CPU and GPU.
I plan on overclocking and would like a build that will work well together to that end. I haven't overclocked my current system so this will be my first venture into that world.
Planned to be built around early June. I am very tempted to wait for Nehlehem but simply don't feel I can. The video card market at the moment also doesn't look to be in its prime but nothing seems to be on the immediate horizon to convince me to wait?
The main wrench in this project is I own a 24 inch wide screen monitor and I know that will affect my choice. Ultimately I'd like a machine competent at running the majority of games I'll be playing at decent resolutions. This is where I run into trouble choosing the best video card to suit the amount of visual real estate my monitor provides.
Any and all tips and advice are more than welcome. If there is any new fancy component swag on the horizon I may have missed out on please let me know. If not it looks like this is the time to upgrade.
