Gaming Build, its been years....

I am looking to build a decent gaming rig. I would like it to be able to run 3 monitors at least. I would also like to do some decent music recording. I am trying to keep it under 900. It doesnt need to be water cooled or anything fancy. Anyone have any ideas? Is there a site that you can kinda customize a gaming rig? I plan on building it myself as opposed to buying an outright tower. Unless somehow its cheaper the other way around. Thanks.
 
I dont build a whole system at once. I just upgrade a piece or two at a time as prices come down.

Back in the day I used to read the Anandtech builders guide but they have been sparse and crappy over the past few years.
