Yea, I know it sucks. But, if you think about it (like the linked article says). We've been gaming on $50 for about 20 years now. I guess we kinda saw it coming with D3 costing $55 and now HL2 as well.

Yea, inflation is just a fact of life I guess.

I'm ready for it. Like you said, fact of life.
I'm sure the pirating scene will thrive more than ever, as it always has since optical media came out, but those of us who are legit will just have to be even more picky when it comes to buying.
As far as consoles go, I think some companies have the right idea right now, such as Sega's sports titles. Although I would imagine the first generation of games on the new systems will be priced slightly higher.
It doesn't concern me much at all, I'm in the sweet spot of the demographic the guy talked about, with disposable income for stuff like this. Hey, it beats smokin away your money with the chron, at least there's ongoing entertainment in videogames. :D

In Warcrows defense, there is just about an equal number of gamers in both applications as in off topic. It was only recently that software has even had any decent gaming discussions so, most gamers still won't check these forums just out of habbit.

As to the topic, Even if they raise the price, most games will still be worth it. Also, even though a few games are going up in price, there are a bunch of good games that come out far below price (30/40 price range).

Major release games tend to debut about the 50 dollar price point. Doom 3, HL2, WarCraft 3, WoW, and EQ2 all either debuted about 50 dollars, or are expected to.

*Sigh*

Warcrow's been crossposting in Software and OT for as long has he's been here. As long as he refrains from using "Teh Bootay" over and over, I don't have a problem with it. ;)

Honest, as long as games continue to go up in price, I'll just keep waiting until the prices drop to something I'll be willing to pay. I'm not saying that the games arent' worth $50-$60...just I don't want to pay that much for it.

I've still got plenty of games picked up from the bargain bin that I haven't finished, so I don't mind waiting a few months until the newer games come down in price.

I bought Doom 3 at full retail (preorder) and I think that's the last time i'll be doing that. A couple weeks later the price dropped $10 and that's what i'll be waiting for from now on. Rome: Total War is an example. Currently $50 including shipping and i'll be sitting back until it's $40-45 or less, most likely.

There are so many games, many of which are below the $50 level, and I have so little time these days to play games other than those my wife and I can enjoy together, that waiting is certainly not a problem. Not to mention all the older games I've yet to experience, plus re-living those I have ;)

Hehe, since Doom 3 has been topping charts since its release, I think that we've proven we're willing to pay the price. Shoot, look at the prices of videocard we're paying now. 6800GTs are 400 dollars and are being called the best bang for the buck cards you can get right now. :p

Ain't no way i'm ever paying more than $300 for a vid card. I paid $250 for my 9800 and that's about my limit.

I paid $180 for my Voodoo 3 3000 back when it was first available - that is the most I'll ever pay for a video card. In fact the most I've paid since then is $95 for a GF4-Ti4200 - and it has been enough for my needs. I figure I'll wait until I can get a substantially better card for the same price before I upgrade. I don't think spending over $200 for a new video card is a good "bang for the buck" - the improvements are more incrimental these days. I always stick with the philosophy that it's better to be a couple steps behind the technology curve to get your best moneys worth.

Cheese-it the cops! (or rather forum police).

Personally, I'd rather see cross posts from warcrow than comments from the forum police.

My crap is $200 for a video card, and $40 for a PC game... so until prices on a game drop to that, I just won't buy it.

Well i'm supportive as long as the games are actually good. Thanks to the amount of horsepower computer nowadays have, and even more in the future, game developers need to invest more resources into graphics than ever. The days of 2-3 code wiz creating a game while still in college are long gone. Nowadays, and especially in the future, games will be big production business, similar to how movies are. So it's inevitable that prices will go up. Infact, i'm surprised that prices aren't higher than they are.

About my limits too.

I may have considered buying Doom3 if it were $35 or so. $55... no WAY.

Now you can get it used for $25 or so.

My limits are about half that. :p But I too remember paying $60 a game for SNES games way back when, and money was a lot harder to come by then since I was a kid. I just don't play many games anymore, too easy to get addicted and waste a lot of time.

/me looks at my posts per day on Anandtech... whoops.

It's not too bad, if games are too expensive then nobody would buy it, then publishers will have to lower prices. I don't think games are too expensive, even at $55. If you can't afford it, wait a couple of months.
