That's the largest screen in my family s 17 rigs. Most are 1280x800, CPUs go from e6300 to i7 sandy. I like to look at 3d06 (at default settings) in reviews as I feel it is closer to what we run. Remarks in revues like "it runs out of steam at 2100 by whatever" make me wonder if nvidea 6900 or ati 7970 would look much better than say a GTX460 on our screens. Is it urgent upgrade time for the gamers? or first get a bigger screen?

Get at least a 24" 1920x1080 screen. A GTX 650 Ti is as fast as a GTX 460 1GB and costs just over a $100. No SLI, though.

Thanks. although using Anands Bench chart the 650 Ti is a little faster I probably could not tell the difference. In short is there good reason to upgrade a 460 given the resolution it will be used on?

If you already have a 460 and only stay on 1400x900, I really doubt you need an upgrade.

Are you actually running into problems? If not, leave it be.

A GTX 460 is great at that res. It can easily do any game out there on High, some on Ultra depending on how demanding the title is.

I game at 1366x768 with a i5 3570k stock speeds and a HD6850 stock speeds and I have no trouble gaming at all. IT runs new vegas, Cod MW3 max everything and the highest I have seen the gpu usage with MSI Afterburner is a tad over 80% with both of those games.

What games do you plan on playing BTW?

Thanks for all the help. I play C&C and Grid on a 8800gt but my sons game and one asked me If it was time for an upgrade. I thought not really, but it's great to go on a forum, say what you think , and often learn a bit. Its not nice learning I got it wrong though it helps me to stop talking BS. So first a bigger screen then dump the 460!

If you want a card to last, the 7850 is about the most expensive that would make sense for your resolution while able to handle 1080p down the road as well.

I was gaming at 1440x900 not to long ago with a 7850 and even some of the most demanding games like BF3 ran like a dream on ultra if i killed msaa,i can say that card and that resolution ran way better then my gtx670 at 1920x1200 with the same settings.

Best thing also is if your monitor like mine decides to crap out suddenly, your 7850 will still serve good at 1080p.

A very important question -I'm am not sure there 3 sons and a son in law and they play on line a bit but certainly games released in the last 2 years. I can buy an XFX ATI 6950 For £120 refurbished from an on line firm I've used before. Will it have a WOW factor? (not world of etc ,just a noticible bit eye candy) In the past we got a kick from 8800gt to GTX260 and then on to GTX460. One rig needed a CPU upgrade. but Have we hit a resolution ceiling.
