So I build my new computer and have vista 64 and I've played some gorgeous games on it. My problem is I am an old school gamer and when I read about the enhanced resolution for the BG2/PST I had to go back to my roots

I installed BG2/TOB/PST and tried to install the widescreen mod.

-PST game worked but no the mod didn't work. I had to try to install the game under full installation but it still failed and I cannot get the mod to install
-TOB had that whole unreadable disk thing and didnt work but after it was fixed I now get some other error 'failed in ChVidImage3d.cpp at line number xxxx' and it freezes
-BG2 works but I don't have the time invested to play it and I've played it so many times; I wanted to play TOB cause i've only played that once

After this failure I decided to try 2 other newer game NW2 and POP3. What happened...nothing

-POP3 when I try to play says I need to install under administrator and when I contacted ubisoft they said it has something to do with Vista and I need to make it compatible with my system or something; and the instructions that were given made no sense
-then NW2 installs and then I get some directx error. I tried to install an earlier version and it worked but the game gives me some error and never starts

so all in all I installed 5 games in about 48 hours and only 1 worked the way I wanted it to and it was the only one i didn't want to play. Anybody know how to fix any of these errors?

for now I bought Indiana Jones lego to play :)

Baldur's Gate 2, dunno about TOB, Planescape Torment, Prince of Persia 3, Neverwinter Nights 2.
Don't know what to do about your problems, though. :(

BG,BG2 and Throne of bhaal,Planescape Torment,NW and NW2 with exp packs work fine on my Vista x64.
Currently I have 95 games or so installed and tested in Vista x64,you should update your DX9.0c to latest version here. Remember its for Vista as well as XP.

Btw only problem I have seen with some 32 bit games and Vista x64 is to do with the CD protection they use,Gothic 2 UK retail version I had to install the NO CD exe.Hack for it to load and run fine,I guess its something to do the unsigned drivers for some CD copy protection that some game companies use.Daemon Tools can cause issues with games too.
Off the top of my head games tried so far on my Vista x64 are,

Gothic 2
Planescape Tormet
BG
BG2 + Exp pack
NWN+Ex[p pack
NWN2 +Exp packs
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale 2
Hellgate London
Mght and Magic 7
Might and Magic 8
Might and Magic 9
Master of Orion 3
Two Worlds
The Witcher
KOTOR
KOTOR2
Mass Effect
Oblivion+Exp packs
Morrowind + Exp packs and WS mod
WoW
Painkiller Overdose
Jericho
Spellforce 2
Prey
Fear
Silverfall
Ufo Afterlight
Titan Quest
Guild wars
Anarchy Online
SWG
Archlord
Mythos
Darkstar One
EQ2
Starcraft+Exp pack
Bioshock
Avencast
Sid Meirs Pirates
Double Agent
Deus Ex
Deus Ex2
UT2004
Jade Empire
SpaceForce rogue universe
UFO-Extraterrestrials
Dungeon Siege
Dungeon Siege 2
Galactic Civilizations 2
Stalker
Need for Speed Underground 2.
Pandora Tomorrow
Space Rangers 2
Dungeon Runners
UT
Steam games(CS,DoD,TFC etc..)

Plenty more but you get the idea.

Some games need to be run as admin, you do this by going to Exe. of the game in question ,look at this for detailed info and screenshot of what to do etc. (SWG is used here as an example),btw some games like to be run in XP compatibility mode too, it can be trial and error depending on the game in question but you should be able to get them working.

for POP3 it probably just needs the installation to be run as the administrator. So right click the install.exe and select run as administrator. It's a pretty common thing under Vista 64. I've gotten to where I just run all game installs that way.

Here's another easy guide on how to run as admin and compatibility mode in Vistalink.

Because there are much easier workarounds to his issue.

yeah there are things I've read to do for all 4 but they either seem to not work or I made a mistake.

I actually did the 'run as administrator' for POP3 and I got a different error. I'll probably email them back and see if they can fix the new issue

If you can't/don't want to read it then don't respond

Just remember some games don't like to be run as admin and vice versa, what I normally do is run the game first, then if it does not load/run I play with run as admin and xp compatibility mode settings.

Last resort for problems is Google,ie type in Vista x64 and game in question, you can normally get feedback and some tech help freom sites this way.

Gaming wise I 'm very impressed with Vista x64 gaming compatibility, remember to update your DX9.0c to August 2008 version.

Bolded my viewpoint, I'm perfectly happy with XP. Christ what an improvement over '98 haha...

I have no issues with gaming on Vista 64 bit.

I don't particularly like the OS but it is necessary for some apps and games I use... which most definitely do not run in Fedora Core 9.
