Gaming and IMing at the same time

Is there a way to do this?

The main problem is somehow switching keyboard/mouse focus to the 2nd monitor while tricking the game into thinking that it still has focus (cus most games stop running or minimizes when it loses focus)

i have dual monitor. i play CoD on my 19" and IM on the other (though not often since then i won't be gaming, per say. I use the logitech elite keyboard and set the scroll wheel on the keyboard to switch between apps. the game still runs on the other monitor, but i can quickly IM if need be. then a little scrolling later and it's back to playing

Usually, it'll dump you back to the desktop with dual monitors.
