Gaming Addiction Survey

Hey everybody,

I'm working on a gaming addiction research paper for school and would appreciate your help.

Here is the survey of about 8 questions that take a couple minutes to answer.

Also let me know your input (if the questions could be better, how?). Thanks for your input!

Yeah, but I'm just looking for what people like more. some like playing WoW, some like playing FPS.

I realize that results will be somewhat skewed, but I think ATOT will have more players that deal or have experienced gaming addiction.

Also I don't want to do the whole mall survey thing.

But you can play FPS's online too. Did survey, and I was 96% addicted to CS for about 4 years... now I've started to decline.

You should rephrase "favorite type of game" to "type of game played most often".

You should also include "both equally" for the online/singleplayer games.

Question 5 is far too ambiguous - I can interpret it several ways...you should be more specific.

And you should definitely change the "have you ever?" questions to "do you often?" questions. I've occassionaly blown off what would have been a boring night or long drive to meet with friends to play an awesome game, but I'd never blow off a good time with friends for an average game or routine game like WoW. And I've definitely blown off a few otherwise pointless classes that I know missing wont hurt me, when a killer game drops.

I doubt there's anyone who plays games often who hasnt at least done that at least once, and your phrasing is going to group the non-addicts who just got a great new game along with the true addicts who regularly do such things, which is really going to undermine the entire validity of your survey. Some of us have been gaming our entire lives, a "have you ever?" question like that is going to get a near unanimous response from anyone thats gamed for many years.

I agree wholeheartedly. My results will sound like I'm an addict but in reality I play games about once a month now, no joke. About 5 years ago I played quake3 like 2 hours a day, though.

Didn't quite know how I should've answered the questions... I *used* to be a game addict so when answering "have you ever" questions, I had to say yes but in reality, I've quit WoW over a year ago and haven't played many games since(no to most answers.)

what kind of class you are writing the paper for?

Im a bit split between CounterStrike Source and Single player Role Playing games. There wasnt a choice specifically for a person in my situation.

You should split up question 8 as it is really two different questions in one. Family functions != hanging out with friends.
