Hi all,
I'm gonna be upgrading soon to 24"(LG 245WP) monitor.
Is a single mid-range card (8800gt/3870) capable of running games today (excluding crysis) at High(ish) settings?

If anyone has experience at gaming at this resolution I'd appreciate their thoughts.

Cheers.

I'm wondering about this too, I recently got an 8800GT to game with, and was also thinking about buying a new LCD for the 1920 resolution but no idea how it'd cope with games at that resolution.

get the monitor and if your card struggles at that res then turn on fixed scaling and choose a lower res then you still get decent pic quality.

Your monitor will out last your grapihcs card, if i could afford it id buy a 24" myself :)

Currently on X1950 pro which has been great on my 19" @ 1440x900.
Was hoping to upgrade when the 3870's and newer 8800GT/s were released but gave it a pass at the time.

I really hope the next gen stuff will not be delayed.

Using a 8800GTX and it seems this card was made for 1920x1200. Most games can be maxed out while reaching frame rates above 60FPS, i stress the word "most" as games like Crysis will strugle but overall the experience is fantastic.

The 8800GT should be pretty excellent at this res too, providing you go easy on the AA.

YES
An 8800GT will game at 1920x1200 with high settings in just about every game except Crysis and maybe Supreme Commander if you're not running a quad.

At worst you'll just drop to 1680x1050 which will still look great on a 24" on a few games to get the fps you want.

Now, that is if your processor / mobo and ram are up to snuff.
ie: Equivalent to a core 2 duo@ 3ghz with at least 2gb ddr2.

Now thats CURRENT games, so dont go digging this thread up in 6 months and saying your 8800GT sucks! ;)

My current setup is a e6750, HIS 3870, 2gb of ddr2 1066, and run at 1920x1200.

COD 4, POTBS, Unreal 3, and the demo of Sins of a Solar Empire all run perfect cranked up to max with no AA enabled. Crysis I bumped down to medium-high instead of all high and it's enjoyable though I do get an occasional stutter. I've only had this monitor for about 3 weeks. Before that, with the exact same hardware setup, running at 1280x1024 I ran with 2x or 4x AA enabled for the games I listed. In my opinion games look much better at 1920 with no AA compared to 1280 with 4x AA. It's worth the sacrifice.

Well, I game on my 2560x1600 30" with a single 8800GT without problems (no crysis, of course). I've run Gears of War, Supreme Commander, CoD4, Bioshock without problems so far.

My rig runs everything pretty well. I have to turn down a few things on Sup Comm and I don't run max on C&C3 but I probably could. I don't really care for FPS so haven't tried Crysis.

I play all my games with settings maxed at 1920x1200. (or 1600x1200 for the ones that don't support widescreen)

Crysis is another story of course, I use 1280x800 on High settings and it's still kinda slow. (running DX9 in Vista x64, it's slower than DX9 in XP, but much faster than DX10)

vid card is a 3870.
