OK. This time, I really did read all the posts concerning this issue. I know I'm not alone, so I hope someone had this same problem and can help me out.

I just got my GameTheater XP (retail boxed) and downloaded the newest Win2k drivers from the Hercules website. I think the driver version is 2.01

Anyway, I follow the instructions from the Hercules website to the letter. (Running the search for all files containing "cwcwdm.inf" produced only 2 hits...one which you aren't supposed to delete (the C:\Program Files\Hercules\Audio\Game Theater XP) and the other was one I deleted (oem3.inf).

QUESTION 1: Is this the only 2 files I should've gotten returned to me after running the search?

If so, I did everything correctly, but upon booting back into Win2k 32-bit mode, device manager finds the crystal drivers again (from where?!?!?) and loads those up...that's it. I don't get anything else. The Hercules instructions suck!!

After many different things I've tried, I decided to just force a driver update on the "crystal....." <--forgot the name, but it's the original driver that Win2k is SUPPOSED to install. After doing this forced update, I get the Digital Signature warnings and device manager updates all my crystal hardware to Game Theater XP stuff.

Everything should be good to go right? WRONG...after reboot, I get no GT icon in the system tray. (I know it should be there because before I reboot, (that is after I force the Game Theater XP driver to update the crystal drivers), I see the GT icon in the system tray. Then, after reboot, it's gone BUT device manager shows all 3 Game Theater XP devices without any problems or conflicts.

MORE INTERESTING STUFF: A short few seconds after my reboot, I get an error message saying that smonitor.exe failed with an "OK" button. I keep rebooting...keep getting the error prompt. So, I unistall the v2.01 update (effectively just deletes the .inf files and all the created installation files), reboot, install the v2.01 file (effectively expands the .inf files and driver files into a newly created folder: C:\Program Files\Hercules\Audio\Game Theater XP), then follow the Hercules instructions again.

From that point, we go back to the problem of nothing happening when I get back into Win2k 32-bit mode after following the installation instructions from Hercules.

So what now? What's going on? What do I do? DAMN, at least the SoundBlaster drivers installed without a problem.

Please help me out. I don't want to wait until Monday to speak with some tech. support dude.

Thanks a lot.

I am also interested in this because I have a XP coming this week and it will be used in Win2K. I think Chad has some ideas on this...

UPDATE

To install the damn drivers for the Game Theater XP, just read all the posts (do a search), try your own stuff out, re-read the posts, more particularly, the one linked by sharkeeper. Particularly, on that linked post, pay attention to what FrozenFrog has to say, you should be able to figure out the stuff from there (my technique can take you up to the point where you have to refresh your drivers for the Game Theater XP (WDM) and Game Theater XP game port devices. Chad's technique might work equally well, but I don't understand why you would reload the oem3.inf file back over into windows since that file gets re-written (I think he meant oem3.inf not oem5.inf-->at least that's the file that I had to remove).

Now, some more questions:

Stuff sounds damn good (mp3's that is). I'm only getting 2 channel sound though. No surround sound. Does anyone have the Game Theater XP with some kind of Klipsch 5.1 setup? Anyone getting surround sound during mp3 playback? My Live! card produced sound from all 8 of my speakers (although it wasn't true surround sound, at least all my speakers were doing something all the time). Any way to achieve this with this very clean sounding card?

Sweet. Good luck with the set up of the GTXP drivers bro. Please PM or E-mail me whenever you test out your 8.2 sound. I'll try DVD tomorrow--I can't now since everyone is sleeping. I'll post here for everyone to share.
