Wow. That was unexpected. That's also going to open up alot of retail space since there are Gamestops and EB Games across the street from each other all over the place.

EBX has sucked since the late '90s. I can't recall ever really liking them since then. Less competition = bad though. The one thing I really like them is their availability (all over the place) and their new game/console releases.

And I thought EB was the giant between them and would have done the buying out.

Whoda thunk it?

There are a lot of personally owned game stores opening up around town here lately....so competition has gotten better around here.

ugh.... this is not good news at all...
EB was 200% a better company..
took way better care of its employees...

I know.. I was a store manager at both chains =/

actually Gamestop is bigger... only becasue the hidden Corporation behind them is Barns and Noble books.. which is a HUGE company.
too bad they treat thier employees like crap..

Wow, a lot of retail employees are going to get laid off. Our mall has an eb and gamestop. I doubt the eb games will be there in a few months.

Not that I care about the stores, Rhino >*

gamestop is a performance driven company. which means that if you dont produce what they want, they will find someone else. this can suck sometimes, but if you are a decent worker, it will all even out.

this merger kind of excites me as a gamestop assistant manager.

the only stores i could see gamestop closing at this point though is if there are multi mall locations. as it stands now, both companies are making money. infact, eb made more than gamestop last year.

heh have you worked for EB?
they pay thier employees a much higher wage and offer benefits even at the 3rd key level...

their POS system is not Gamestops crappy DOS/Unix system it is a Windows XP point and scan interface that saves 3/4 of thw work you have to do at Gamestop everyday.

distros and inventory are on the fly not like Gamestop..

sucks huge

Oh thats bullsh!t. I was a ASM for over a year with gamestop and was consistantly in the top 10% of ASMs in my area and I got DICK for it. My store was clean, well organized, and we had built a solid reputation as being better than the EB downstairs.

But that didn't matter. If we had a week of crappy sales, it didn't matter. The bitching never stopped. Corporates solution? Change the store manager. What did that do? NOTHING. After I left and my old manager stayed, he said that the store never hit the goals corp set even after they changed it repeatedly.

Gamestop sucks to work for. They suck even worse when they don't pay you your last check either. :|

OMGWTFBBQ
This is not good, one less place to shop for video games means less places that have special sales :( :( :|

I don't know man. I know of two friends that were assistant managers. Their district manager made verbal threats against them so they quit. It's cool if your company is performance driven, but no worker should face verbal threats. In fact, my friend's 2 weeks ended EXACTLY on the day before Black Friday. They begged him to work that day but he gave them a big F YOU.

i will agree, there are quite a few systems that need updating in the gamestop market. honestly, i think all our profits go to buy bricks to build more gamestops. but i figure that that is another reason this buyout occured. what was once EB's, is now gamestop's. including that point and scan interface you were refering to.

eb might pay their employees more, i dont really know. ive never looked into it. most of gamestop employees (besides management) tend to be kids in highschool. they work for peanuts, and dont really seem to care. plus we get about 5 new applications a day.

edit: ive worked in retail for about 10 years and met a variety of different people. your two friends quiting on the day before black friday says more about your friends than it does about gamestop.

this sux. EB was 100% better store than gamestop.
EB buys and sells used PC games, Gamestop dont. Heck, my gamestops barely even carries computer games.
My EB got games usually 2-3 days earlier than the gamestop in the same mall. Preorders at EB rocked... Gamestop sux.
