GameStop store credit?

Hi all, my question is pretty basic. I have a slew of old PS2 games that aren't worth ebaying or selling (Tony Hawk 3, Madden 2k5, Medal of Honor, things like that). I was going to go to my nearest gamestop and trade them in since they claim to take "any game" but was unsure about how this process works. I tried googling and looking on their site but I couldn't find a very descriptive answer. What would I need to do if I walked in the store with a stack of games in my hand and I wanted to get store credit? Do I need to pay for a store card? Can I just trade them in for cash? (I want to snag a used copy of God of War 2 with whatever I can get from those old games!)

I tried that and was disappointed in the results.

I brought in about 20 games and they were only going to give me $18.

AT FS/FT.... post as "Must buy all." Give a fair price and they'll be gone in a week.

Old games will get you $0.50 - $1.00, not joking.

Newer games will get you about 20-25% of the original cost.

Newest games will get you about 40%.

All you need to do is bring in the games and they'll check the value of each game. They will give you a final $ amount which is good for STORE CREDIT. If you want CASH, they will deduct an additional 20% from the total they just gave you.

You might have better luck selling on craigslist or ATFS as a one big lot sell.

Their payouts are horrendous. But it's a quick, hassle-free way to get *something* for your games if you don't care about getting back what you likely could through other avenues.

There seems to be two types of people when it comes to trading in games:

1) The people that don't care at all about the actual value of their games, and if trading in 7 games gets them $15 towards the $60 cost of the new game they want, then it's a value in their book. That's $15 less they have to spend.

2) The people that think logistically and can't help but think how horrible it is that they're getting $2 back on a game they paid $60 new for. They say "no" and then they walk out of the store, disgusted at the trade-in system, and pissed they don't have store credit.

PS -- I'd say that 90% of all PS2 games will give you between $1-3 credit, unless it's rare or very new.

yeap payouts are bad. but watch people when they bring in stuff you can snag some good deals.

i was behind a kid (and his mom) who brought in a PS2 and like 40 games and accessories. they were offered $30 for it all. teh cashier walked away because they said they wanted to think about it a second. i offered them $40 for it all.

they walked outside and i gave them the money.

went home put it on Ebay and made $90 and kept a the RPG's in it.
