Gamestop is sad

Dropped by today while getting some coffee and it was just a sad sad place. The store used to be an EBgames where the walls were filled with PC games. It used be about 1/2 and 1/2 (PC and the rest consoles).

Now, there is a HALF shelf of PC games, the other half of the shelf were GAMECUBE games. The rest of the store was completely consoles.

🙁

I never cared for them after Best Buy and Steam came to light. Doesn't make much sense to keep the PC segment going when their competition can offer more in terms of accessibility and sales promotion.

Besides, I really got sick of them offering me extended limited warrantees, magazine subscriptions, memberships, reserve lists for games that have release dates for the next year, and reminding me of the 5 dollar trade in. I was almost about to wear ear plugs everytime I entered the store.

How many PC gamers buy games from Gamestop?

I'm surprised they even have a PC section.

I do from time to time, but not very often. I get gift cards for there quite often.

I'll be getting AvP from there with gift cards, decided to get that game cause it uses Steamworks so I can just tie the CD key to steam and not worry anymore lol

I was never impressed with Gamestop. They have always been more console content than PC content IMO. EB, BB, and CompUSA always had a better PC game selection than Gamestop ever did. At least in my part of Florida anyway.

I bought NBA2K10 from them, first and and probably last time I will buy a game.

It was pretty funny, console kids were in the line and the casher says "NBA2k10, great game. $19.99"

All the console boyz started looking/asking "you have a sale?"

I turned around, smiled and took off.

There is 3 gamestops that is close to me. One of them only sells WOW for the PC. The other two no longer carry PC games. Unless you are willing to order it and wait for it. Guess its time to buy my pc games from steam.

The EB Games store where I live has gone from a whole wall, to a double sided shelf, to a row 4 games wide on the wall with 1/4 on the bottom filled with old games with the boxes in tatters.

I simply no longer go there.

There's a small bi-level rack at my local Gamestop, sitting in the middle of the floor with a handful of PC titles on it. They used to have an entire wall. Not that it really matters though since most games today can be bought and downloaded online through Steam. Steam is usually cheaper too thanks to their sales.

Yeap, the days of PC games aplenty at Gamestop are long gone. Now it's just filled with kids running around and disgruntled parents wanting to hurry things up and get out of there.

It's like that at my local mall Gamestop anyhow. If it wasn't for the Orange Julius next door, I wouldn't even know how a Gamestop looked today since I stop going casually about 6 years ago.

I do have some nostalgia of the old days though; especially since I picked up Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate II and Septerra Core all from Gamestop. Those were the days. /rockingchair

I remember I walked into a EB games store and the guy there refused to sell me Unreal Tournament because I was too young. It pissed me off so much that I've never bought a game from there since. Especially since I went to Best Buy and they sold it to me.

I buy all my games from Steam now. Even if its a little more expensive I do it for the convenience and to not deal with boxes

Steam is the onestop shop now. Sometimes Best Buy, but I'm lazy and buying through Steam is a cinch. Especially when you need to reformat or move to a new system, or own multiple computers.

Same! Bought BG2, PS-T even Septerra Core from EBGames! Actually I bought almost all of my PC games from Gamestop.

The original Babbages was an amazing shop. Today, Gamestop is nothing but a glorified console depot. I think they only carry PC games to make Microsoft happy so that they can get exclusive pre-release deals.

Man..I remember the days of Software Etc for my pc gaming needs. These days its steam or online shops like Gogamer. I used to love the wacky boxes pc games had in the 80's and early 90's.

Gamestop ate up Software Etc I think.

LOL you're lucky that you even get a shelf on the wall. Both of the gamestops near me have a small rack in the middle filled with maybe 30 games tops. If I want a game that's not on steam (which basically never happens) I pretty much either have to pray that walmart has it or go to best buy.

No, gamestop is sad because there is never that hot chick you dream about who "for-realz" cares about video-games and works there.

All we ever get is ugly chix, fat chix, ugly+fat chix, "goth-chic" with too much foundation, concealing the true nature of her complexion, while also being obvious by her attire that she "don't" got the goods underneath.

The worst part is they still pretend to be COOL in the store by being rude and aloof.

The local Gamestop actually carded me when I bought Fallout 3 last year. I was 23 at the time. Granted I do look a little young for my age but certainly older than 17. Even the liquor store never asks for ID.

I've kind of had a falling out with them over the prices of their used titles. You can't take a $60 game somebody's sold you for a fraction of that, then throw it back on the shelf for $56 and call that a discount.

The part that gets me is when they try to get me to buy a used copy of whatever I bring to the register. Thrifty is nice, but if I want a game disc that looks like somebody ice-skated over it and a chimpanzee with a palm full of lard played twister on it, then I'd go straight to the used shelf.

And yeah, as mmntech says, their rates are horrid. Buy a game for barely a few bucks less with marks on it? No thanks. I was even there when somebody bought a game "new" and he walked out of the store and opened it. Smart move, there was a giant thumb-print on the surface. Probably not enough to ruin the disc, but when you pay good money for a "sealed" game, why settle with used goods? Do the employees rent the games before release or something?

And lastly, mouthy, know-it-all employees. I turn into a major rager (inwardly) when I hear the employees belittle other companies while talking to customers when THEY work for the bottom of the barrel game retailer. That and when they are completely wrong about games which haven't been released or other facts. I keep my mouth shut, but I know I've done more homework than these guys.

No offense to Gamestop employees that post here. I'm talking about 1 of 2 local gamestops in my area. I've been to the other one once, it was nice and quiet.
