4/30: Order Portal 2 from GameStop with "up to 2 weeks shipping"
5/1: Portal 2 goes on sale at Amazon with free 2 day shipping
5/1: Check status on GameStop order, "Open"
5/1: Attempt to cancel order on GameStop website, cancel button loads an error page. Error page says to e-mail GameStop to cancel.
5/1 7:55PM: E-mail sent to GameStop requesting cancel.
5/2 8:00AM: Attempt to cancel on website again, button still not working.
5/2 3:15PM: Receive e-mail reply saying they cannot cancel my order because it is already packaged. Links return policy.
5/2 3:57PM: Receive shipping confirmation
5/2 5:40PM: Read return policy and see return shipping is not paid for if GameStop is not at fault. Since GameStop is at fault I reply as directed in the policy.
5/3 8:37AM: Receive e-mail with return policy copy pasted verbatim into the e-mail. "Here is a copy of our online return policy, which should answer any questions you may have:"

Just keep on them about the error page thing and they'll cave like any other company would.

Send it back and refuse the CC charge. Document everything.

Why didnt you just order portal 2 through Steam, or direct2drive?

Is there a reason why you wanted to wait on the boxed disk to arrive in the mail?

You missed a step before they shipped it:

Call credit card company and cancel the charge since their site didn't work and get it through amazon.

I greatly would have preferred to purchase off steam, but paying for the boxed edition shipped to my house was $20 cheaper. If they were the same price I would buy the download version.

[edit] That's a 67% premium to pay for the privilege of not getting a box and a disc, by the way.

So how is GameStop at fault for you changing your mind and wanting to order it from somewhere else?

If they had already shipped my item then fine, but it still said "open" on the website and there was a cancel option. I changed my mind BEFORE they did anything with the order (and while the cancel option was still available), no one even works there on the weekends.

Just because the carrier hasn't picked it up doesn't mean it isn't packaged and waiting for them.

Besides, you ordered it with "up to 2 weeks shipping", which so far it doesn't seem like that isn't what you are getting.

So again, how is it their fault?

So change the status to "processed," remove the non-functional cancel button and I'm a happy customer.

Steam had 10% off on portal 2 pre-order, that was the cheapest I saw it.

On top of that, I bought the 2 pack that included extra copies of portal 1. I got all 4 games for something like $79 or $80. The price for the 2 pack, equaled out to about $19 or $20 per game, and there were 4 games in the pack, portal 2 X 2, and Portal 1 X 2.

The price I paid was 40% off, and at the time there was no discount on steam.

I also don't need two copies.

There is no such thing as "cancelling" a charge. Once they get approval it can go through. They get the approval when you placed the order. The ONLY charges you can put a "stop" or "cancel" on are recurring charges.

I hate gamestop. Mainly b/c they open their new games, let the employees take them home to "test", and then still sell it as new. On top of that, they always only put one copy out and say it's their last one, such BS.

I called 4 stores a few weeks ago to ask if they had patapon 3 new and sealed. Each store said the same thing, "oh no sorry, we only have 1 copy left and it's the display copy". F that.
