It's not a bad game, but it's not great either. Just mediocre. I suspect the reason why it received so much backlash on release is because Aliens fans had a lot of really poor expectation management.

You're kidding, right?

It wasn't well received because of the amount of bugs, terrible AI, and terrible presentation. Ever see the preview video of it a few years back? Talk about a bait and switch.

AvP2 was pretty damn good. I've probably completed 7-8 times since I bought it, maybe more. It is what I would measure any new Aliens game against.

AFAIK, one of the main gameplay issues with Colonial Marines was that an alien would run at a marine, the marine could kick it away then shoot it while it regroups, which is probably a valid tactic if you're up against aggressive care bears, but not an Alien.

That's exactly what it was. I preordered, which I never do. Because of that game I will never preorder another game again lol

Utter nonsense.

If you had followed any of the developments leading up to the years it was in development , you'd know the product that was promised and had been previewed for so long before was completely butchered and neutered from what had been shown.

I snagged some copies for some co-op buddies and any DLC that had stuff for Single Player at GMG. (Weapons that should have been in the core game and the surprise character back story.) Only get the game and DLC when it's dirt cheap.

It feels like a B-Movie sequel that Syfy channel was allowed to make....

The patch did fix some things and there is some nice .ini tweaks you can do for visuals. Also check out Aliens: Colonial Marines Cyan ENB and or SweetFX profiles.

The game is okay. It makes me laugh. I'm not bored playing it co-op. It's a mess but somehow a wonderful mess.... I can make fun of it and laugh and enjoy myself with some friends.

The game has it's moments. Some levels are actually good but the Characters, voice acting and plot is just second rate but because of that makes it comedic. Plus AI and glitches also add to it.

Only play this co-op and with people who have a good sense of humor and enjoy riffing....

I heard Stats Interrupted Story DLC was much better than the main story DLC. Haven't played it yet.

I don't hate this game but I wish it was amazing like the demos and hype by Gearbox falsely promised.

Multiplayer is really fun with some nice DLC but no one really plays it sadly.... Maybe it will gain in popularly but it needs dedicated server support.

Otherwise for good Alien games....

AvP Classic 2000 with the Classic Redux mod. Which the Alien A.I. still holds up really well. This is worth getting. No co-op though and Multiplayer is fun.

AvP 2 Gold This is pretty much abandonware (because the engine is owned by Warner and Aliens and Predators by Fox). The Single Player story is really good. The Multiplayer is a blast too again no co-op there is a very buggy co-op mod. (Never played the Primal Hunt expansion.) Plenty of HD mods and widescreen support.

AvP 3 (2010) It's fun. Not amazing. Not terrible. Just alright. A better effort than this game though. No co-op. Multiplayer can be fun but it won't knock your socks off or anything. It's just alright. Some mods but nothing to amazing.

Otherwise.... Alien Resurrection on PS1 is fun as well as Predator Concrete Jungle on PS2.

Aliens Infestation on DS is great. It's like Super Metroid which is great. The story is what Colonial Marines should have been!

One of the best Aliens co-op games is a mod for Killing Floor. It's a blast and I think is still being updated.

Otherwise you have older mods for like Doom and Aliens Trilogy which is like Doom.

@ 2 bones you cant go wrong. However, I must say the game was a total let down and Gearbox should be completely ashamed of them selves.

Played all the way through when it came out. The PC version reminded me of Duke Forever in some ways, but DNF was much better. A:CM was garbage.

To me, it's not a matter of $2, as we're all adults here with incomes (I assume), it's more a matter of time.

That means that my 4+ hours of free time, or however long you may take to complete the campaign or screw around with MP that barely works, is more valuable to me than to waste on ACM.

Found it a bit hard on med settings myslef, and I normally play the 3/4 setting when i play in FPS to keep it a challenge (long past being able to play the hardest settings). I liked the levels that took advantage of the "blend" in .. but to many where way to open.. early in the game the large circular room with edge walks.. and doors locked.. to artifically keep you in one spot. takes one clip almost on a alien, a shot gun that one shots, but only if you are point blank and reloads slower then dems and rep coming to an agreement. Every cliche was used, then you stack on aliens morphing in and out of the floor (bug) doing that crazy graphic glitch where the texture looks like its gum stretching across a room. put 4-5 aliens in tight spot, limited ammo, you have an intense gun fight. add bugs where htey warp in and out of floor (or other surfaces), get your sight blocked by stretched graphic glitchs, we ha! instant piss off.

all that said I got my $9.99 when it was that price.. $2 seems worth it to me.. if you got the time.
