GameSpot's Best and Worst of 2005 awards kick off

Its looking good for Psychonauts, which is up for nine awards -wow.

Did you spend 2005 on a remote Peace Corps assignment, totally cut off from all gaming news and reviews? No problem. Now you can catch up, as GameSpot has announced its nominees for the Best and Worst of 2005 awards. Categories range from Special Achievement Awards like Best Original Music and Most Outrageous Game to Dubious Honors such as Worst Trend and Most Long-Winded Game Title. The best games in each genre and on each platform will also be honored, as will the overall best game of the year.

Lots of good games in there. It would be hard to choose just 1 from each category. God of War has a lot of nominations too, which is good since that was one of the best games I've played this year.

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't think Guild Wars looked that great by any standard. They had some nice effects, but nothing worth a nomination.

Overall, a pretty poor year for games, especially for PC RPGs.

2006 should be much better:

Oblivion
Gothic 3
Hellgate: London
NWN 2
Titan Quest
Operation Flashpoint 2
Hitman: Blood Money

... and quite a few others with potential.

Yes, you're right. Some nice effects, but technically PGR3, FEAR, and BF2 are way beyond. I would personally vote for FEAR, but I haven't seen PGR3 enough to know exactly.

Yes, you're right. Some nice effects, but technically PGR3, FEAR, and BF2 are way beyond. I would personally vote for FEAR, but I haven't seen PGR3 enough to know exactly.

ya wtf Guild Wars. EQ2, L2, among others in the rpg segment had better graphics

Guild Wars, best graphics, FOR BUDGET PCs. GW could crank out graphics on my old Radeon 7000!!! Thats what I call good graphics. In high end of course GW is dead...

Makes you realize how subjective just the award category can be. Is it best technical graphics considering limitations? (RE4?) Best technical graphics optimizations? (GW?) Best technical graphics technology used in the game? (FEAR? or BF2?)
