I'm going to guess it comes down to Vader, Ganondorf, Sephiroth and Bowser. Of the four, who wins... really depends on gamespot's demographic (which I don't know very well).

Kefka, hands down.

Definitely. I'd vote Diablo for overall epicness, but as a boss he wasn't all that great. It was the rest of the game that made beating Diablo feel so glorious. ;)

Kefka was by far the best villain IMO, though he'll definitely be pushed aside due to most people not knowing who the hell he is.

Kerrigan and Jon Irenicus rank pretty high on my list of villains with Kerrigan probably topping the list.

Oh god, if it turns out to be Kefka vs. Lavos at some point, the internet might shut down.

GOOOOO PURPLE TENTACLE!

Also I think itd be funny to see Kane vs. Kain in the finals...just sayin.

Glados vs. shodan in the first round will be interesting.

I'm also curious to see how Ocelot does, hes a pretty crazy villian....

But your right, bowser will probably win based on nostalgia. Maybe Ganondorf, but I doubt it.

Sephiroth also has a shot.

Sephiroth will win sadly. I can base this on the sheer amount of fail Sephiroth<random number> user names that exist on the internet.

Yeah, they (well, GameFAQs, which is the same thing now) did this before and it came down to Sephiroth, Bowser, Diablo, and Ganondorf, with Sephiroth winning.

Everyone on GameFAQs votes for Sephiroth as the best villain and Cloud as the best hero because they're all in love with girly men.

I'm guessing Gamespot's demographics are only marginally more mature.

GladOS shouldn't go up against Shodan so early. Shodan cannot lose, even to the loveable GladOS.

Every year Cloud and Sephiroth beat out much better characters on GameFaqs and the Halo board erupts because Master Chief loses to like Link "due to Sony fanboys".

I think it was in 2008 that "Your PC" was like in the top 10 villains in some magazine because it couldn't play Crysis. That was funny (mostly because mine could).

Meh...

I can't say that there have been many epic great villans in games, I really struggled with that list.

Sephiroth was pretty awesome due to the mystery surrounding him but hands down has the pansiest ending of any boss ever.

Jon Irenicus was good too but way overshadowed by a rather large game with more subquests and plot parts that diminished his overall impact on me.

How did Kerrigan make it onto that list? Did anyone play SC's SP campaign? It was okay but Kerrigan was by no means worthy of adding to this list.

I would suggest a rather out of the norm villian: SAM from Star Wolves. An AI program gone rogue, creating it's own force to rival the corporations and then even after being 'destroyed', it kept coming back for more. Star Wolves 3 leaving mutiple endings involving SAM and neither of them were nice.
