Quake as in Quake 1 LOL.
you should be playing Quake right now - it's as good as PC gaming gets.

Apparently the script for picking random reviews for their top of page has no check for the date -- set the wayback machine for 1996 :)

(main page boxes change each refresh)

My brother still plays it semi-regularly.

I'm not a hardcore gamer (probably averaging 2 games per year since 1996), nor a hardcore FPS player, but Quake's single-player game does stand out for me in its atmosphere. I hear people say the same thing (but more emphatically) about DOOM and DOOM II. Apparently, id is known more for game engines than actual games since Quake (and they've laughed all the way to the bank in the process).

So many fond memories of playing Quake deathmatch and CTF online at Mplayer back in high school.....

Haha, I used to play on Mplayer too. Quake II though. What was your rank? Were you in a 'clan'?

BTW, that game used every shade of green and brown imaginable!

Quake CTF + grappling hook = best CTF game of all time.

Quake was a classic. I remember the lan parties I used to go to in HS back when nobody had DSL/cable and lan gaming was the only way to game lag free :)

You listen to that Jed the Fish show on Sunday mornings?
Nope, they stole it from Jay Ward's Rocky and Bullwinkle show, the "Peabody's Improbable History" toons starring Peabody the talking dog and his boy Sherman.

Man... I loved Quake 2. I used to play it everyday in high school. I used to be in the top 100 in the world. Sigh, those were the good 'ol days.

Didn't have a rank that I'm aware of. I joined a few Quake clans but they never lasted that long.

:D I signed on when they were still beta testing it for free. It went downhill after almost two years though with so many people signing on and they also made most of the good games pay-only :(

Heres a Quote from the Review that cracked me up. But at the time it was true. Hard to think in 5-6 years we'll be makin fun of the graphics on UT2003 and how crappy it looks.

with its ominous atmosphere, silky-smooth animation, incredibly well-balanced gameplay
