I'm not a hardcore gamer (probably averaging 2 games per year since 1996), nor a hardcore FPS player, but Quake's single-player game does stand out for me in its atmosphere. I hear people say the same thing (but more emphatically) about DOOM and DOOM II. Apparently, id is known more for game engines than actual games since Quake (and they've laughed all the way to the bank in the process).

Quake was a classic. I remember the lan parties I used to go to in HS back when nobody had DSL/cable and lan gaming was the only way to game lag free

Didn't have a rank that I'm aware of. I joined a few Quake clans but they never lasted that long.

I signed on when they were still beta testing it for free. It went downhill after almost two years though with so many people signing on and they also made most of the good games pay-only
