Late last year, the termination of GameSpot editorial director and reviewer Jeff Gerstmann came with such abruptness, it was speculated that others might leave the online gaming site as well. Fallout from the ordeal finally struck last Friday with the resignation of Frank Provo. While not as high profile as some of the staff at GameSpot, he has contributed over 700 reviews since 2000 as a freelance writer.

"I believe CNet management let Jeff go for all the wrong reasons," said Provo in his blog. "I believe CNet intends to soften the site's tone and push for higher scores to make advertisers happy."
