just got my parts for a new rig and have run into a snag.

rig:
windchester 3500
msi neo plat
ocz 3200 r2
2 seagates hd
pcp 510

my snag is that I ordered a bfg 6800 ultra o/c but they wont ship till late Jan. I am in need of a card to hold me over (specially during Xmas break...kids and grandkids will be here) till the other one comes in

havent really looked much insofar as lower priced cards perfom (yea I know the search thing) but i thought somebody could just drop me a line and give me the name of a card that would head me in the right direction

something under $100...even $50 if it will work

thanks

what is going to be played? for decent performance I'd say try to score a 9600pro new or used.

You could get by with a ~$50 used GF4Ti, but I'd try to score a used 9600P (no idea what it sells for used) or 9700P (~$110).

Buy used, and you can resell them on the Agora when your 6800U arrives without losing much (if any) money.

Cancel the 6800 Ultra OC and get a 6800 GT, which is easy to find in stock. They are cheaper, the performance is close, and you don't have to wait. Time is money when it comes to video cards.

On another note... Doesn't Newegg ship to Kansas?

They have the Ultra OC in stock for $540, and I bet they would get it to you before the end of next week.

the one i have from dell is $419 for bfg 6800 ultra o/c... trying to talk myself out of it... to much $ almost as much as i paid for the chip and board... bought some of my parts from newegg...they dropped them off here in kansas on their way to the west coast...

can't substainiate paying over 500 for card... hard enough to swallow over 400

That is a sweet deal on an Ultra OC, I can't deny that... However, even if you get a cheap interim card your total cost will still be close to $500. I would go with a 6800GT from Newegg for under $400. That gives you great performance, less cost, and you can get it sooner.

yea i just checked it would be 395 (including shipping) at the egg...would have to buy something halfway good to i could sell it later...for $24 more the bfg ultra +o/c...decisions...decisions... check ebay out for some 9700's and 9600's big difference in the going price... is there that much difference in performance.... hell if its good enough i would even consider canceling Dell order and use 9600 or 9700 till prices drop down further...

advice?
big perfomance hit going from 9600 or 9700 to the 6800's

thanks

What game will you be playing.. 9800 pro should beable play to all current games,, the 9700 pro will be abit slower. Of course the performance will be different than the 6800 because it's a older card.
You should compare the 6800 with ati's x800 or x850, similar performance.

It all still depends on what game you'll be playing.

I think for only $24 more the 6800 Ultra OC is a no-brainer. That price is just too good.

The 9700pro is way ahead of the 9600pro. The 9700p has double the pipes and is a 256bit memory interface compared to only 128bit for the 9600p.

Likewise, the 6800 Ultra OC is waaay ahead of the 9700p.

You've got a very strong rig. The 6800 series is a perfect match for the rest of your parts.

I'd just pick up a used Ti4200 or 9600p and resell it when the 6800U comes in. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and the darn thing will come in b4 XMAS.
