Games too dark

I just bought the racing game GTR a few weeks ago. So I install it, boot it up and its really dark. So the first thing I do is adjust the brightness on my monitor. Its set at 75 right now and bumping it up to 100 didn't really help much. So I went into the Display Properties and to my video card options which by the way is a ATI 9800 Pro and to the color tab, selected the Full Screen 3D option, bumped up the gamma, and brightness a few clicks, went back into the game and it worked for the menus but once I get on the track and the game darken ups again. I then went into my other games, HL-2, Battlefield 1942 and a few others and the games are much brighter but for some reason won't brighten up GTR. There is not a gamma option in the game either. Anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks.

Have you tried the Hotkeys in that same color tab? If you haven't, that might be an option that would work for you.

Click on Hotkeys and try something like Alt + I for Increase Gamma. Don't forget to uncheck the Disable hotkeys box.

edit to say that you know how that works, right? If Alt + I like in above example, once the game starts just hit Alt + I until it's as bright as you like. Works famously in HL2 and probably anywhere else.

i've assigned hotkeys. shift+ctrl+1 but the thing is the shift button, the ctrl button and the 1 button all do something in the game so when I try to adjust it nonthing happens except the stuff that suppose to when the buttons are pushed. I didn't try it when the game starts up, i'll give that a try. Thanks.

Well I tried the hotkeys, and I incrased the gamma and brightness a ton. The hotkeys don't work at all, at any point. The gamma and brightness worked for the first 2 screens then it resets and its really dark again.
