I finally booted up the DCU beta last night only to find that it ended on Wednesday. Oops.

Ghost Trick looks neat from what I've seen.

Doubtful. Unless it is WAY better than City of Heroes it will be a relative failure.

It doesn't have the same level customization that City of Heroes or Champions Online has but I think that the combat is better. It also has the draw of playing with DC characters and some great voice-acting (lots of familiar voices return including Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamil as Joker).

The $15 subscription fee is going to be a tough pill to swallow though even if SOE is promising new content on a monthly basis. At some point they are going to have to add to the set of available powers, movement types and body types.

I played the DCU beta on the PS3, frankly I was disappointed.
It was like they had just shoehorned the PC game on to the PS3. most text was unreadable on my 1080p TV and I could not make head nor tail of the controls with the pad. Might have been better with a keyboard and mouse I suppose, but that wouldnt have fixed the text problem I had.

I'd have been extremely annoyed if I had bought it in that state. I'm going to need to see substantial improvements before I will reach into my pocket for it on PC or PS3.

They added the ability to adjust the text size for the PS3 version. It's not as big as it could be but better.

As for the controls, I thought they lent themselves better to a control pad than to a mouse and keyboard. The further you advance in the game then the more combos and abilities you learn. It plays more like Marvel Ultimate Alliance in that regard.

The big problems for the PS3 version (other than the subscription fee) are:

  1. You have to get a keyboard or chatpad. Trying to key in text using the controller takes too long.
  2. Questionable player population.
