this is not my main pc but its still one i use from time to time for gaming bought bulk lot of 5 pcs online and came with bunch of printers for $50nzd and built this using parts from the other pcs sold the other pcs off and parts and printers made $75nzd bought the video card new for $49.98nzd used giftcard i get from doing surveys to buy it

specs
core 2 quad q6600 (not overclocked)
gt 710 1gb (overclocked)
6gb ram
1tb hdd WD
windows 7 Pro 64-bit
using an old tv connected to it that has a really nice picture for only being 1360x768

playing gta iv at 1360x768 set to low i get

before i overclocked video card
15fps-32fps 23fps average

once i overclocked the video card
45fps - 60fps 50fps average

i did try farcry primal before overclocking the video card at low 1280x720
12fps-20fps most of the time stayed at 15fps

i don't care if i have to run games as low as 800x600 don't care to much about fps as long as the fps never drops below 40fps depending on the game

what games would you guys recommend i know i should go for a better video card but the pc is a small form factor and i don't used the pc enough plus its too old to warrant getting a better card for it

I have a GT 710 in a HTPC and considering it can barely handle 1080p video playback I can't imagine gaming with it. However, if you're bent on lower res gaming you'd probably run some DX9 games alright on low to medium video settings. 1GB isn't much by today's standards obviously, but if you fiddle with texture and shadow quality settings you might actually find a few titles here and there that run ok.

1080p video runs fine on my computer using the video card i use this pc to watch blu-ray movies on it

Minecraft and stuff prior to 2012. The 1gb vram is going to limit a lot. If you are looking for actual game suggestions I'd start by listing some types of games or genres you like.

With that setup, you're looking at a lot of games around the early to mid 2000s.

It's a low-end PC now try upgrading your graphics card and increase memory size nad you will be able to play many new games on low medium settings.

OP stated that this computer was not his go-to for gaming and that he doesn't plan to install any upgrades.

There's no way that Divinity, FC3, or Payday 2 will run on the TC's machine. I haven't heard of those other games, so I'll assume they probably won't run either if you lumped them into that list.

Your probably right the graphics card is really weak. I'm pretty sure sentinels of the multiverse will run as its a 2D card game thats really fun. Shadow run Hong kong is a top down isometric RPG thats pretty old but also really good.

Although having said that the minimum specs for payday 2 from steam are:

  • MINIMUM:
    • OS:Windows 7
    • Processor:2 GHz Intel Dual Core Processor
    • Memory:4 GB RAM
    • Graphics:Nvidia & AMD (512MB VRAM)
    • DirectX®:9.0c
    • Hard Drive:31 GB HD space
    • Sound:DirectX 9.0c compatible
The same for FC3 are:

  • MINIMUM:
    • OS:Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7
    • Processor:Intel Core®2 Duo E6700 @ 2.6 GHz or AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ @ 3.0Ghz or better
    • Memory:4 GB RAM
    • Graphics:512MB Video RAM (1GB Video RAM), DirectX9c (DirectX11) Shader Model 3.0 (Shader Model 5.0)
    • DirectX®:9.0c
    • Hard Drive:15 GB

There's plenty of games that will run fine on that PC. Just forget about most stuff 2012 an up. But if you know what you are doing, quite a few games newer than 2012 will run fine as well.

you know, a while back i built a system consisting of a Celeron, because i was waiting to buy a E6600, and a GTS8800.

it was ok. *some* games it really struggled with (the ones which made the CPU do most of the work), and some others ran find (the ones which made the GPU do all the work). I think i even ran Oblivion on it.
