I just bought a nice 22" CRT that does 2048x1536 @ 80HZ and was wondering if anyone knows what games even support resolutions up to this? I've been using a 19" CRT for about 6 years now and its max was only 1600x1200, so im anxious to see how these uber resolutions look. Yes i know performance will be interesting, but ive got SLI 7800GT's to give it a run!

Many games let you run custom resolutions via console commands. I know the unreal and id engines are all like this (I'm running UT2004 and CoD at 1920x1080 atm). If you have a game and you want to run it at that res, check it first, it might offer it in the seetings. If not, search the web for tweak guides, they usually have these types of console commands.

Baldurs Gate II.

Some older 3D games let you set any resolution, regardless of what your monitor or video card support. Descent 3 and Unreal come to mind.

Also, most of the games based on the LithTech engine like Alien Vs Predator 2, Tron 2.0, No One Lives Forever 2 and Might&Magic 9.
I think most Quake 3 engine games will get up there too. Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, KOTOR 1 and 2, Call of Duty.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind might also go that high.

I wasnt aware Baldurs Gate ran at 1280x1024. You may be thinking either 1024x768 or 1280x960. It also works at 1600x1200 and the elusive 2048x1536.
As far as small text goes, it depends on the monitor size. On my 19" CRT even 1600x1200 looks OK. I think there is a setting file somewhere in the home directory where you can change the font size too.

 that is a function of monitor size and clarity just as much as resolution...

Quake 3 will - I remember when anandtech tested the matrox parheila and had it running 1280x1024 on 3 monitors at once, solid 76fps! it might have been 10x7, but on 3 monitors at once is pretty impressive

I was under the impression that 1600x1200 was the highest officially supported on most titles.

Nope. My monitor goes up to 1920x1440 and many 3D games list that as an option. I can only assume those same titles would work at higher resolutions.
But I'm not about to buy a bigger CRT just to find out. ;)

I used to have dreams of this bad boy:

A guy on the forums actually found it someplace for 450 bucks and FREE SHIPPING!

But I may finally move into the realm of LCD gaming and order this sucker instead:

It got awesome reviews on Anandtech. 1006 dollars is the cheapest I've seen it, and that was from some shady little store I never hear of.
