Built my first pc to play all games better since I was using a Vaio back then. I knew I was gonna try BF1942 on it at the time.

Upgraded that PC with 1.5 gigs of ram and a 9800Pro 256mb 2 years later specifically to play BF2. I was pissed it cost me over 300 dollars to play my favorite game on Medium settings.

Recently built a brandnew rig because I had my old and first one for 5 years!!! On a funny note, I bought Crysis because of my new pc, not the other way around.

That's why I don't upgrade for Crysis, all the current hardware runs this game on medium and I don't want to go crazy and buy 2 video cards.

Beside that, Crysis is kind of a let down, it looks great but the game itself sucks.

Same thing is true for Quake Wars, when I heard it's being developed I was sure I'd get it and upgrade my PC for it, but then I saw the reviews and it really disappointed me.

Same story with Hellgate London, another game I thought I'd get but is disappointing.

This is why I am still on my P4 2.8Ghz and 6800GT, waiting to see if Starcraft 2 and GTA4 for the PC are worth an expense.

recently..AoC, new processor, new video card.

7950GT ---> 8800GTS G92
E6600 ---> E8400

I also remember upgrading from a 7400Ti to a 9600pro ATI card for battlefield 1984 and DC mod!

never had to upgrade for LoD, haha...or BF2 even.

The only game I remember building a system just so I could play it was Oblivion. Too bad the game turned out to be a huge let down. Was pretty looking though. I built a A64 and EVGA 6800GS OC (12 pipe version @ 490/1100) for this game.

Well, I played a few weeks of the AoC open beta and that really made me realize it was time to upgrade, even though I'm not going play it now that it's live. I'm also upgrading for Mass Effect and basically all the games I couldn't play at decent quality for the past year and a half, like Bioshock, etc.

My last upgrade was around the time of HL2 and with Oblivion in mind.

The first Tomb Raider. Went out and got a Voodoo add-on card for 3dfx goodness. Was still running dos and Win95. Ahh, the good old days when I spent hours trying to fing a freaking IRQ for my soundcard that didnt conflict with the voodoo card.:)

I typically don't upgrade for any single game, if anything really good games stop the trend of constant upgrading as I'm too busy playing the game and don't want to risk any downtime tweaking/upgrading. Otherwise I constantly tweak and upgrade while waiting for that next game to catch my interest. My last major upgrade to a G80 GTS, Intel C2D and 24" LCD has been the best relative upgrade yet in terms of overall gaming experience. Games simply look, sound and play incredibly on current hardware.

Nothing. I remember sitting with a crap computer for a few years when stuff I really wanted came out. I just let them all slip by, but picked them all up once I got an upgrade at bargain bin prices:). My current computer is pushing 2.5 years old (they were already outdated then). I'm unemployed right now, and the 'state of PC gaming' is concerning enough that I don't really plan on upgrading for another good while. Chances are that I will buy my first laptop before I get a new desktop.

I upgraded last for The Witcher because I couldn't stand playing it on low. I also bought this rig for Fallout 3 this fall so that worked out pretty nicely.

A good multiplayer game would make me upgrade. Then again I upgrade every year or so.

The only game I ever upgraded for was
Quake2

I went through at least 3 totally seperate machines just for this game.
Started off with of course a Voodoo 1 when the game came out, then
got a voodoo2 etc etc.

I just like to upgrade my machine... I can't remember a time that I actually upgraded for a specific game.

If I upgrade to a GTX 260 though, that will mostly be for Crysis / Crysis Warhead. Right now my 8800GTS 512MB plays through anything else easily.

I upgraded for Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight in 1997/1998. I went from an S3 ViRGE DX (2BM) to an ATI Rage II 8MB.

I also upgraded for BF2in 2005. I went from an AthlonXP 2400+ to a 3200+, 512 MB to 2GB and Geforce DDR to Radeon 9800 Pro.
