I don't think I've seen any games that break the fourth wall and I'm very interested in seeing how these games play out (if they exist)

Does anyone have any recommendations?

It can also be a PC game as well.

The Simpsons game does a surprisingly good job at this - very self-referential, very funny, very well-written. If you can get by the control and camera issues, it's a good way to go.

I honestly don't know why I never picked this game up!

If you have a Gamecube or Wii, you have to play it. :)

Yeah, I got a Gamecube that I haven't touched in awhile. :)

Fallout 1 and 2 definitely do this on occasion. There's also at least one occurrence in the first Max Payne.

What is the fourth wall?

And for that matter, what are the first three?

I don't know, I played it all the way through and found it enjoyable.

The three walls you see on a stage set, the fourth wall is the "invisible wall" between you and the actors. An actor is said to be breaking the fourth wall by addressing the audience.

Imagine a stage, with a play happening on it. The stage has three walls (I guess the stage isn't necessarily square but you get the idea). The fourth wall is the invisible barrier between the actors and the audience. Breaking the fourth wall happens when an actor addresses the audience directly or otherwise says anything that reveals that they are aware they are in a play, temporarily jarring you out of the fictional world.

Example: Spaceballs (really all Mel Brooks movies) is full of fourth wall breaks. Like when Dark Helmet accidentally kills a member of the film crew, or when they get out the video tape of the very movie they're in, or when Yogurt shows off Spaceballs merchandise.

Also, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Ben Affleck says "who'd pay to see a Jay and Silent Bob movie?" at which point all the characters on screen stare at the audience for a couple seconds.

Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening does it a couple of times when you talk to the kids outside the library.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about this SNES classic. I hope they remake it for the DS or something.

World of Goo

HOLY SHIT! For reals?

My God!

You asked. No need to be an ass.

Oh no, I'm just very surprised. This'll probably a title that I would look into a little more.

Sorry, then. My sarcasm meter must be running on overdrive.

If you haven't tried the game, I'd highly suggest playing the demo:

I just had it out the other day. I had the DX version which was in colour. A lot of those old games are way better than the crap today. (looks at his PC with scorn. lol) Seriously though I think the Gameboy surpassed the NES in many ways by that time, ironically enough. It's still in my top ten. I've been meaning to hunt the other two GB titles down on eBay, as well as Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal. Crystal is still going to $40. I always thought Gen II was the weaker of the series but something must still be drawing people to it.
