Games Similar to Zone of the Enders

I have entered a severe video games lull recently and haven't found a game that can really hold my attention for very long. Call me ADD if you like, but I really like extremely fast paced games like the Zone of the Ender's series on PS2. Are there any games on the computer that are in the similar genre or have the same feel?

Freelancer sorta comes into mind... I haven't played Zone of the Enders, but I do remember kinda what it looks like. Freelancer is more of a fast paced arcade-space combat type game with plenty of laser weapons and missiles. The game is a little on the older side (I think 2003ish) but has graphics that will hold up to today's standards and I think it still has a pretty good modding community with plenty of mods to suit the game to your style. It does have plenty cut-scenes, descent story, and simulation elements (like upgrading your ship, trading, and whatnot) and, iirc, you can't skip the cut-scenes, so I'm not sure the interruption of combat/gameplay is what you wanted. It's definitely worth a try though.

This post makes me want to re-install the game 😉

Nothing will ever match ZOE2. Once you get zero shift, the game becomes more fun than...I don't know what.

Freelancer was a pretty entertaining game, but not nearly on the same level speed wise as ZOE.

I was afraid that was the case. Looks like I'm going to go buy a PS2. I'm very sad mine got stolen back in the day.
