Okay I've been out of the gaming scene for the past year or so, and I got a pretty damn good gaming machine for xmas, so I want to start gaming again. Give me your opinions on what you think are the best games of the year! I need to stock up my harddrive and get gaming again!!

NFL2k1.

Oh, you mean PC games?! Okay, well, this isn't a game from 2000, but Rogue Spear is my favorite PC game. A lot of people on these forums like Half Life: Counterstrike v1.0, but I personally can't stand it. :p

most definetly Half-Life: Counter-Strike. . if you want half life...checkout compusa...it's selling for $7.99. if you have a good internet connection, download counter-strike for free. even if i had a dial-up modem i would still download the 80 meg file.

other good games are unreal tournament and quake 3. i like counter-strike a lot more. as you can see i'm a first person 3d shooter gamer. so wait for other recommendations in this thread if you don't like 3dshooter games.

Hands down the best game I have ever played has to be Sacrifice. There is so much depth and replayability to this game. It just keeps drawing me back. Normally I only play a game for a few days and lose interest...I have so many unfinished games installed on my hardrive that its sickening but I've had Sacrifice for over a month now and even though its a bit buggy I still enjoy it as much or actually more than the day I bought it. No game has ever done this for me before =)

Now here comes the bad part the game has some problems with some of the original AGP boards rev 1.0 like I have which causes it to crash to desktop every hour or so. I am going to swap out my motherboard now...going up to a kzv from k7m not e real good testament to the game that i have to buy a new motherboard to run it but it is a very good testament to how addicting it is lol.

Some other goodies would be No One Lives Forever, MechWarrior 4, Deus Ex, The Longest Journey, Crimson Skies, Quake3Arena, Unreal Tournament...Oh theres a bunch of them just go to the store and pick some out LOL it was a great year for gaming.

I've played and LOVED q3 and ut...i wasn't really impressed with half life, the graphics seem kind of outdate?? What is NOLF? I'm also big into strategy games so suggest those.. like homeworld (is cataclyms as good as homeworld original??) I've heard alot about Giants, has anyone played that? Keep em coming!!

hey can you tell me more about Sacrifice? I don't remember hearing about it..

of 2000, the best games are Homeworld: Cataclysm, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Forces is ok.. well there are a few games I want though, other then those..

for example, space combat, I want to get Star Lancer, and Allegiance. Allegiance is a massively multiplayer space combat game.. both of those are supposed to be pretty good.

No One Lives Forever (NOLF) is supposed to be ok too (never played it).

anticipated games? for me, Quake 3 Team arena (we'll see how well it goes though), and The World Is Not Enough, which is based on the Quake 3 engine, and is coming out on ALOT of platforms (PC, N64, PSX2, probably DC)..

I'm looking forward to securing myself that game..

Soccerman, download the Sacrifice demo. After you're done the third training mission you'll be hooked.

Sacrifice is a very good looking game from Shiny, the people who made MDK & MDK2. It supposedly pushes the newer graphics cards(geforce etc.)for the first time.

What about Ground Control? How did that game stack up against the others?

Best written game engine: Quake3 (it was written prior to 2000, though)
Best gameplay: Counterstrike

I would recommend against ST Elite force as poor value for money (in my opinion). I finished it in an afternoon, it was disapointingly small.

Funny how a post in this forum generates more replies in 15 mins than it would get in a week in the 'software' forum.

Sacrifice is the most refreshing and pleasantly addicting game I have played in a long time, perhaps since Total Annhilation. Stunning graphics, slick interface, powerful robust graphics engine, great framerates & creepy atmosphere.

1) Sacrifice
2) NOLF
3) Crimson Skies
4) Mechwarior 4
