games on lcd monitors

OK, apparently LCD monitors usually have 1 native resolution and can change resolutions but the result sometimes does not look appealing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong 🙂

So, what happens when you play games? Do they have to run at that resolution, too? If so, what happens if you play games like StarCraft (doesn't it run no matter what in 640x480?)? Is it unplayable?

Most LCDs have what is called an AutoSync feature. This allows the resolution to be switched on the fly and have the image fitted to the screen whenver a program demands it. This means that games at different resolutions are playable. The monitor just swiitches resolutions.

cheap LCDs will look horrible at resolutions other than their native resolution. high end LCDs have features which make it look better, but it's still somewhat not as good as native resolution. of course it depends on what resolutions we are talking about..

I have a Planar 17.4" LCD with a native resolution of 1280X1024. I've tried playing games at other resolutions and it is playable. There is some bluriness tho.
