Games on DVD?

DVDROM drives have been available for years, but have only recently become a virtual no brainer. Why aren't we seeing software on DVD yet? I've been waiting since I bought my first drive in 1998 (Creative Labs 5X Dxr2 kit)... I got Wing Commander III (or was it IV?) in the box which was a DVD game. I haven't seen one since.

I'd much rather have a single DVD than 4 CDs (Enter the Matrix)....

What do you think?

They had that one where you are a cartoon knight. It was an old game so I'm not sure why it was on DVD, but I remember seeing it.

Dragon's Lair. It was on TV because the game was basically a movie.

It's called Dragon's Lair, one of the most innovative games of all time.
Chances are unless you grew up in the early 80's you may have heard of it but probably haven't played it.

It was the first game made with fully hand drawn animation, the first Laserdisc game, and probably the first for a few other things.

It's been made for several systems including SegaCD, PC-CDRom, and of course DVD. None of them are really good compared to the original though.
It's on DVD because that's the only way to get the same amount of video quality for ~1 hour of animation.

I thought Dragon's Lair was cell shaded. Anyways, I remember back in the days when I was a little lad, i went to the local arcades and it was crowded by tons of people with their mouths wide open and drooling. that game was tough and seemed addicting.

game companies can't afford to require DVD drives as long as tens of millions of potential customers only have CD or CDRW drives.

But yes, now that I have a DVD drive I'm all for shipping games on DVD 😉
