Games not working with new connection

Hi guys...recently I moved to UC San Diego at my dorm. The problem is that I had SP2 installed and my internet connection comes from a proxy server I believe through the school.

My problem is that when I try to enter into the Delta Force Black Hawk Down lobby, and when it calculates ping times, it remains at 0%. Next when I click to join a game it freezes.

I have tried turning off my firewall and had unblocked port 17479 udp (Port used to open for hosting even though Im not hosting). Still no success

So what do you think is going on?

I tried to join another game Delta Force 2, but I could get into the normal lobby and after a long time (approx 5 min) it would say establishing data link and just sit there.

any suggestions?

I know this is banned like talking about p2p's, but I downloaded winmx just to see if there is something wrong...and when I tried to ping I would get question marks (meaning that it cant ping the other comps)

what u guys think? any suggestions post them up here

your school is blocking the ports you need to rungames and P2P programs

nothing you can do about it

no...I asked one of the admin's yesterday and he said that none of the ports are blocked, so I dont know if the security patch (sp2) is refusing it to ping, or it is the interconnection....so what u guys think? 🙁

firewall is running..with exceptions to ports (meaning I open ports for certain programs) .the p2p winmx...downloads works...and so does aim file transfers...just cant join games...how do you check if you have a public ip? sorry n00b at networks🙁

I have an IP Address...dhcp...hope that helps in your helpful comments

but thx guys for your help

Open up a cmd prompt, and type: ipconfig

If the ip starts with something like: 192.168, 10, or 172.something, then you're in an RFC1918 IP address. Just about everything else is public.

Ok, sounds like a public IP address.

Try turning off the XP firewall totally, just long enough to see if it connects.
