I installed my new asus a7v880 and SATA drives. reinstalled windows, and loaded all my drivers/service packs/etc.

I flashed my motherboard bios to the latest version, 1004. installed a few games and upgraded the ones that needed it.

so far I cannot get either doom 3 or city of heroes working properly.

Doom 3 loads just fine and I can play through the levels with good frame rates and such, but it crashes when I try to exit the game, it just hangs and I have to end task.... when I try to load City of Heroes it gets to the loading screen and goes no further. it halts just before the login screen shows.

i changed the video card out with my geforce 3 ti500 and I have no problems.

the card is stable as a rock in the 3dmark 2003 tests I ran, no crashing or locking up. everything else looks fine.

am I missing something? A special software patch or bios setting?. are these tow not compatable?

system configuration:

asus a7v880 (onboard sata, audio, gigabit ethernet)
Athlon XP 2400 (266 bus) @ 2ghz
WD 200 gig SATA hdd
Seagate barricuda 40 gig attached to SATA using an PATA to SATA converter.
1gb Crucial PC2100 (On the compatability list for this asus mobo) operating in single channel mode
400 watt Antec TruePower PSU
Plextor 12x10x32x cd burner
Toshiba 8x dvd drive

everything was working just fine with my old motherboard, the ABIT KG7 (now you can see why I upgraded :) and still have 266mhz components)

The downside of getting the latest and greatest, nobody has had experience with it yet :)

the 6800 is the greatest but i assure u, the a7v880 is not!

i have both of them and i have the EXACT same problem, it seems to be video card related. i have the doom3 problem cept now its getting worse, i cant even exit using the magic windows keys. i have to hard reboot which always makes me uncomfy. i read somewher that newer driver revisions fix it.

btw, do u have any problems in changing video settings in quake3? i cant change any of the settings and its really pissing me off. it crashes immediately. i had the same problem with my old TNT, but it went away with my later radeon so i was happy. now i came back to Nvidia and again i have problems. ATi, hats off to u for being stable, nvidia, hats off to u for making problems so i can feel good by finding ways to fix them.

I can change the video settings, I have to restart doom to put them into effect, which means breaking out the ol' task manager and ending doom's task when I want to make the change.

good to know i'm not alone with this problem, I'll probably look into RMAing the motherboard because it doesnt seem to be as solid as I had hoped, I know this video card is rock solid because it worked flawlessly in my KG7.

I had the same problem with Doom3 and COH...it turned out to be the drivers. Tried 61.77 and 61.76 no luck. Then I tried the 66 beta's and both work fine. You can get them from 3dguru or do a search on Google.
